Belvedere II with 318

That's the problem with them. If we at least had off the shelf pistons and aluminum heads I'd consider it.
Campbell enterprises still offers stroker kits for polys but the main thing for me is intake and cam.. cam you can get a regrind but intakes are just insane, that's why i'm putting in a LA, more options although still turning out stupidly expensive (cause i am doing **** the hard way)

AL heads are available.

...and 1967 318's are 9.2:1- not too bad for today's gas, but not 8:1 like the 70-82 318.

Those heads are also available in two cc capacities to further up the compression if you want.

But you're talking about LA motors and heads no?

67 is an LA

...unless it's a Canadian car.

Does it have 2 bolt valve covers that are scalloped at the bottom?

It has an LA. We were just speaking about the cost of building a Poly motor...got a bit off subject.
Gotcha. Well if you want a hotrod like chrysler built, put a 440 in it and call it a Belvedere GTX like chrysler did!

Well of course. That does take a bit of money though. In a perfect world I would have a nice hemi in there!

Poly 4 barrel intakes cost a fortune. I think an adapter would work ok for a street cruiser.

Let's get back to 318 LA's..

Don't take Uncle Tony's chit chat as gospel. He has had some catastrophic failures that a beginner could have avoided.

Sacrilege!! You don't get how hard plasitgauge is to actually use!!
(ok i'm done)

I don't know specifically about the 67 318 LA, in a Belvedere II

I did have several in other B-bodies & A-body (Duster)

the 1968 Satellite, triple green
I had as a daily driver had a lil' (2bbl) teen in her, cloth bench seat interior,
stock 3.23:1 sure-grip & stock 318 innards & mostly stock-ish heads
except for an alum. Edlebrock 4 bbl manifold, gasket matched heads & intake
3 angle valve job, poor-mans head service/lapped valves
& a 4160 600cfm Holley/electric choke
'gold' Moroso drop base air 14" cleaner/3" element & timing chain cover & valve covers
stock org. 68 318 LA camshaft, lifters with 60k+ miles
put in new Cloyes timing chain set, 2*s advanced (replaced the fiber gears org.)
with Crane ductile Irion style cup ball 1.6:1 adj. rockers/pushrods
some (IIRC) 1-5/8" longish tube headers, 3" collectors,
2-1/4" exhaust with an H-pipe, dumped at the rear axle (like everyone did back then)
most of the exhaust was off/from one of my 68 Chargers,
that was a racecar, didn't need it
a 904 TF on the tree, with a B&M shift-kit, (IIRC) stock converter
car had 15" Cragers 295 back/245 front & (IIRC) BFG radial TAs (or Polyglass GT)
a hinged fiberglass hood 6bbl style, off one of my other cars

mostly all extra parts I had laying around, low budget for sure

I beat many a BB car with that lil' teen in the stoplight to stoplight drags
it was an honest low 14 second car & got near 20 mpg too
fun lil' driver
people got upset when they knew it was a lowly lil' stock-ish teen

great lil' engines

don't get me wrong I'm a BB guy thru & thru, but that DD was fun
& the looks on people's faces when getting waxed by a lil' 318, in a B-body
was priceless

IIRC the poly 315/318 ran from at least 1957 (and a 2x 4 barrel was available) to 1966 (67 in Canada).

That's a pretty good run.

But the good news for the OP is his LA will be MUCH cheaper and easier to buy parts for.

I've had 2 67 Belv IIs with 318 (LA), 2bbl and 727 auto. Decent drivers when running well. Certainly not racers and could definitely tell the difference from my 383 Satellite, but still plenty of power for normal driving. Easy to maintain and got decent gas mileage - around 20mpg.

The most efficient 318 I've ever had was a 67 that dripped clean water from the tail pipe and got 22-23 highway MPG and about 18 in town.

The most powerful was a 66 poly that would eat gm 350's when in good tune with the rest of the car set up.

A friend of mine built a 318 LA for his 1956 Fargo pickup. He used a 340- 4bbl. intake, 340 auto. cam, and 650 cfm. AFB from a 383. He used exhaust manifolds from 2000 Ram pickup 360, and his 318 made 300 h. p. on the dyno. Makes you think Chrysler under rated their 340.
