Looking for crisper and higher shifts in my 62 Belvedere, 3184bbl, 727 pushbutton. I rebuilt the transmission 4ish months ago and like a dolt didn't contemplate installing a shift kit, servos, governor kit, etc. I did add bolt in sprag, kolene steels, upgraded seals, PTC converter.

I want to keep it automatic shifting , no manual valve bodies needed. Street car with factory pushbutton 727, rear pump. Looking for wot shifts around 5000. Nothing crazy.

Go shift kit or valve body? Transgo TF2 looks decent but CRT has a complete valve body for $225. Would this be the same as adding a kit only no hassle of swapping parts? Also guessing low/reverse servo needs upgraded in either case.

Do I need to get a governor kit as well? Trying to get around it 8f possible. Pulling the tail housing in the car looks like a huge pain as I just welded up the exhaust to fix some leaks.

Any recommendations?

Normal band adjustment for both, per the book. Then, 1/8 to 1/4 added turn to adjustment. Pick your poison.

Aftermarket shift kit, don't recommend over tightening bands.

Call John Cope racing transmissions, he'll set you up.

John Cope is first on my list, dealing with a brake issue at the moment. I don't have an issue installing a shift kit if that's what it takes but a complete valve body set up for tighter/Higher shift points seems the easiest route to take. I just wasn't sure if the governor "needs" replaced along with the shift kit or valve body.

It's not a race car but I would like it to shift higher than 4100rpms when I romp on it seeing as my cam has a power curve between 2500 - 5500 rpm.

I've drilled the inner governer weight with a 3/8"bit about 3/8" deep. It'll get you pretty close.

i did a transgo tf2 in my 65 coronet. it'll do what you want but be careful with the kickdown adjustment. too tight and no up-shifts.

Update:I ordered a 5600rpm max wedge governor from Torqueflite Patty with spring. Got it installed and get shifts at 5700 rpm at wot. Still contemplating a shift kit for quick, snappy shifts but I am happy with the governor as is.
