If the owner turned in a claim to an insurance company and the insurance company paid a claim on the automobile the insurance company then owns the car. The owner gives the insurance company the title which is surrendered to the state that issued the title and a salvage title is issued to the insurance company. Once the insurance company receives the title some companies will have the car towed to a storage lot where bids are taken for the salvage. Other companies have contracts with salvage yards. In these cases the salvage yard takes possession of the car and they dispose of it as they see fit. Other companies may permit the owner to retain the salvaged automobile and the original owner buys the salvage back from the insurance company for whatever the salvage is worth. In those cases sometimes the title is left alone.

I don't know about other states but in Az if the insurance company said it was a total loss or even paid a large sum to fix it, the title would read salvage. Unless the owner did not go thru the insurance company.

This link shows how you can get a clean title on a flood damaged car.

Check out the rusty gas pedal &, dimmer switch. If you look closely, it looks like there is a water line on the console carpeting....

The way it works in Pa is your vehicle is in an accident. The insurance company comes to look at it and they call you in a few days and say it will cost to much to repair so we are going to totalt it and offer you this amount. You can hackle with them and at the final offer they get the title and you have to push them to buy back your vehicle with a salvage title. To make her road worthy you must apply for a Reconstructed title.

One more minor thing. In his listing he says he is selling it for a friend who got it through a business transaction.

Did anyone ever contact him and ask all of these questions ? Seems like alot of talk but no action ?

Yea..a number of us have..below is the reply I got when I confronted him about the car:

You really should get the facts correct, the people writing in the forums are not always the experts they pretend to be and don't have first hand actual correct infomation. Car is available for a in person inspection anytime before the end of auction. Thank You

I got the same message.

It's guys like this with this kind of talk who give the used car business a bad name.

Hmm, "halfway" up the tires could indeed mean the floorboards (and all the typically rust prone places on fenders and quarters) were under water, couldn't it?

Please let me explain something to you, the car is located in Glendale Az, and in the summer the temp gets to 107 so any moisture in the car would be gone, I know this because I live there :headbang:.

Who cares, if the mechanicals are good and its dry, spray it clean to make sure theres no salt anywhere.it looks decent. It wouldn't scare me away.

Even if that's true, look what evaporating salt water will do to the "upper" portions of the car.....

Check out the door switch, dimmer switch & wire connector....

And this is what can be easily seen. Imagine what's hidden.

Salt water is a curse but for the right price the curse can be lifted. Make a low ball offer if for nothing else to piss the guy off.

I don't have to imagine... I've seen it on salt-water flooded cars.
