Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and blah

I thought the '92 300Z was purty nice looking. After all, they were trying to copy Ferrari styling?

Then, somewhere along the way they tried to copy the Porsche 911? IMO they F-A-I-L-E-D at whatever they were trying to do.

270
is definitely a blob. It's fugly IMO.

Ah I see. I always thought the step up in the middle number meant it was the next one. IE starting with the 240, then 3-4 years later the 260 and so on. I didn't know they made em all at once.
I don’t remember the exact years but they do step up, I think the 240 was 70-76, 260 was 76 only, 280 was 77-78, then the zx was 79-83 or 84

Where we disagree about is I suspect, EVERYTHING Detroit bitched about back in time, emissions, mileage, cost, safety, etc that they said couldn't be done, wasn't cost effective, wasn't needed, was overreach etc, has been exceeded today by many factors. What Detroit was lacking was the will and truthfulness, for reasons others can decide.
And Calif had a canary in the coal mine position with fighting smog, and they became the tip of the spear early in tackling car emissions.
I can't remember recently smelling the exhaust of any nearby operating car. Ca was the leader in that success, like it or not.
Well… if you design a car with fuel mileage first above aesthetics… we have the current look.

Ok, so I was on the right track to begin with. LOL

Back in the day as a yout, I lusted after the 1992 Twin-turbo Fairlady Z

I wonder how many have heard of the name.....?
The Fair Lady was a 1600 I believe. An acquaintance raced a 68 Datsun 2000 in Sports Car of Canada racing. Same body style. We had major sports car racing back in the day. Ludwig Heinwrath. Guys racing F 40’s etc.

The fairlady was the 240z in Japan. The emperor of Japan loved the American play my fair lady, so they called it that. They didn’t think the car would sell well in America being called a girl name, so they put the engine displacement, and the letter z because they thought it was so good no car could ever compare, so z because it’s the last sports car you’ll need

They weren't made all at once. The original 240Z was 1970-1973. Then the 260Z was sold for one year only in North America, 1974. (It continued in other parts of the world.) 1975-1978 had the 280Z.

I still remember the television ads for the original 240 in the fall of 1969...

1972 240Z. It ran fine and handled fair. I washed it around 180 many times.

They all look the same when they are parked together. And there were others scattered about. What happened to automotive styling?

Mostly driven by NHTSA and
European standards for
vehicle crashes and
pedestrian accidents.
Supposedly allowing a better
chance of survival in an
accident.
It"s getting to the point I
can't tell one from another.

Did you have a hat in yer back pocket? lol
If I did, it would have been my sons. He had a hat collation, 150 to 200. I have a few, but I really don't wear hats.

yep your correct, I had a 1968 1600cc Datsun Roadster (SP311 ?)
in silver & black, albeit I was too tall (to have the top up) or big for the car
it was a fun car, peppy lil' roadster, got it on partial trade

about the same size & power as later a MG MkIV Midget

not mine, mine had polished slots & Radial TAs

That body style 2nd gen.
I think they started in 1966 (don't quote me) went into 1970 (?)
the org. were a (IIRC) 1500cc roadster, various different cc combos, up to 2000cc
the early 1st year (?) 1961's were feeble powered at best

the name 'Fairlady'
yes it carried over to the 240's etc. in Japan, even badged as such
here it was really known as the Datsun Z cars
they were Nissan/Nismo even back then in Japan

Is this horse dead yet?

Let's take a closer look at the OP's pic in context with the rest of the thread.
let's number them from closest to the camera.
1 looks nothing like 2 Totally different, the only thing in common is the visor.
2 is similar to 3, but not the same.
3 and 4 to me look like a model year "facelift" of the same car. audi, I think. The back glass is literally identical as is the side trim for the glass. The lights and bumper fascia are different.
5 looks nothing like 3 and 4 or 2 or 1.
6 and 7 can't really be seen.
7 looks nothing like any of the rest.
