Did the dmv get into mopar restorations and deciphering SO's ?
The frame, is the body, is the car. Tell them to look up unibody.
I brought up the rosette rivets and they said thieves can make those. They are help bent on those 2 numbers.

A buddy of mine went through 2 years of hell with idiot DMV "certifiers" in NJ.
 
I'm just in the process of getting a write- off back on the road. One of the steps is getting a canada wide vin search online. Less than 24 hrs you receive an email back " you're good ".

Is the fender tag on this car? The SO number is on the core support and on the rear frame crossmember to the left of the drivers bumper bracket. Probably not visible without the bumper and bracket off.
 
No, "they" won't have to justify or do anything.

They could simply ask you to leave or be escorted out.

In my experience, trying to explain VIN vs SO for pre-1968 Mopars causes most DMV employees to lose interest, and refer back to the book where it clearly states TWO matching VIN locations are required....in FL...TX may be different.


...and you can't get an IBM card from Chrysler Historical unless you can prove you are the owner.
 
My experience tells me you need to do one of two things. I’ve fixed two title issues on old mopars.

1. Search high and low for a gubmint employee who reads books. Could take months or years.

2. Start calling legislators, governor, whoever. They can make things happen. Reason is, they like a broken gubmint so they have the answers and you have to go through them and kiss the ring to get a simple solution. The mess is set up by them by design.

Did you ask your cop friend for the name of the last person who titled the car, they can get a duplicate title. If no luck, search under the seats, under carpet, and behind the door panels for the build sheet. Your '66 might not have the SO behind the bumper if it was an early build. With two SO's and a VIN plate attached, I don't see their problem. It's reasonable to discourage theft, but there has to be a way. I once had to send certified letters to former owners to ask if they had any interest in a motorcycle. One, the heir of the person I bought it from said no, the other never responded so I got a title. Until I was quite insistent, the county said nothing could be done. Talk to the treasurer office manager and insist they tell you how to get a. title. There has to be a way to title it. If they won't help, then see a lawyer and pay them to write a letter. When facing legal action, bureaucrats get very good at their job.
 
There is no Vin # on a '66... vins did not appear until late '68 or '69 depending on mfg.
