Broke my 7UP Pop Machine today....

My helper and I spent the afternoon picking our nose!

How it sat after throwing it on quick to get her home after paint.

Couldn't live with that..

A 1/2 hour of playing and I can live with this!

Doesn't get much better than that!

Drivers side not quite as clean but it is what it is... a car.
20231216_150143.jpg

Hood needs to come forward a smidge..

Now I can sleep at night...LOL

LOOKING GREAT WAYNE!!!
And no boogers hanging/ showing!!

Not sure if I lost one, or never had one.... but easy enough to make from an old crazy carpet. Rain shields for the back window interiors.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 012.jpg

Red might show or peek out...
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 014.jpg

All fixed, just need some clips. Headlight bucket stop bolts above them.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 018.jpg

Now that I adjusted the nose I can barely get my pinky fingers in between it and the hood to open it. Time to put the safety catch and hood pop spring in place.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 059.jpg

Hood catch in place.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 076.jpg

Lift spring screwed down to the latch plate.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 078.jpg

Someone at Chrysler was thinking when they did this with three tube clamps and screws.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 079.jpg

Time to clean up the hood pins. Found some nice new washers, identical to the beat up originals, in my stash.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 081.jpg

Painted Satin Black.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 083.jpg

Pins cleaned up, will install pin bezels and cables while the paint dries on the washers.

Hood pin retainer pin cables installed.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 090.jpg

Yep, it's off the car. This is what happens...
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 092.jpg

Pin bezels mounted.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 096.jpg

Spoiler unwrapped and ready to install.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 098.jpg

Spoiler on. License plate and grill bezels next.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 100.jpg

Grill and bezels ready to go with tinnerman clips and painted screws.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 108.jpg

Not sure I like the body colour spoiler, might have to go back to Black. Will see if it grows on me for now. Still needs the rubber bumper strip installed, but that'll wait until she's buffed out.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 116.jpg

Clip nuts previously media blasted and dipped in T9 installed to front fenders.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 125.jpg

Quick buff on the marker light chrome.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 136.jpg

Driver's markers installed.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 138.jpg

Passenger side ready to go, with OE retainer and nuts.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 140.jpg

Passenger marker in place.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 142.jpg

Back side. Full under coat car from the factory.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 143.jpg

Fender extensions ready to install.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 146.jpg

Close up to show the rivnuts for the bottom pan installation. That said I don't have, nor do I want a bottom pan blocking radiator air flow.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 147.jpg

An hour of playing and tweaking and we have a GREAT fit. Doesn't get much better than that!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 149.jpg

Everything blends fairly nice.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 153.jpg

Air seal shown in place. Will need to get the asphalt undercoating out and blend in the yellow!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 165.jpg

Drivers side again not quite as clean, but I can definitely live with it.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 168.jpg

Wife was yacking to a GF at supper time, so I had time to install the hood pins and set up the hood depth as well while I watched the "line in use" display! LOL
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 179.jpg

Gorgeous.. PRE cut and buff !
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 180.jpg

Lookin good.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 184.jpg

superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 186.jpg

Pretty consistent gaps, just need to bring the hood forward a smidgen. Need to paint the correct hood attach bolts yellow first. We threw some temporary bolts in to get it assembled and home back in June.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 187.jpg

superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 188.jpg

Bed time again.

It certainly is, but since we're at camp all Summer and I figured that I'd lost 2023's use of the car anyhow it's been back burner'd while I take care of the important things around here first = family !

You mentioned leaving out a "bottom pan".
I'm not familiar with these cars. Does that panel bridge between the nose and the radiator core support?
Secondly...
I really like the subdued look of the smaller black treatment around the headlight doors. I'm aware that it isn't stock but it sure looks cleaner to me.

Yes, OE the entire bottom was buttoned up with a galvanized pan. Bolts into the lower nose, fender extensions and clip nuts along the rad support. Clip nuts are still there on mine, just don't have the pan and most guys leave them off for airflow anyhow.

Black out is just ready for the larger decals. Painting it black this way avoids the "racoon eye" look that some have when they forget to black out about 1/2 " around the headlight buckets and doors.

Wayne, will the panels etc shift around after a few hundred KM's?
They are extremely difficult to move in any direction to get things to line up, so now that I have them "there" I don't think they're going anywhere. The only thing that may happen, but it shouldn't now that the lower fender extensions are in and the keep the nose braced, is the nose may droop a bit again.

Looking good Wayne. Did the insurance payout issues get put to bed yet?

That's a beautiful car. I'm glad you are giving her the attention she deserves. I love the detailed pics

Someone with a torch in the 80's pulled the bumper. Guess they couldn't get the bolt out and then the nut departed it's welds and down the frame rail it went.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 201.jpg

Took me over an hour to fish the old nut and broken bolt out, that's been rattling around in there for 3+ decades. I set a new nut into place and ready to MIG it to the rail and clean the mess up. Hopefully without setting the car on fire....
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 204.jpg

We will see how well the 54 year old bumper cleans up.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 207.jpg

Quite well amazingly. A little hand rub with MAAS. Upper edge 1/2 done here...
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 216.jpg

Not bad, not bad at all. Looks like I need to search through my stock and find a couple of bumper bolts as well. Someone stuck regular bolts in the lower edge.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 218.jpg

The other collateral from the torch wielding fiend.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 227.jpg

Pattern off the opposite side.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 238.jpg

Mess cut off clean. Just need to make a metal replacement from the pattern and weld it into place.

Having a hard time reminding myself that I'm reassembling this car, not restoring it!!

Guess I should clean up the licence plate light.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 248.jpg

Some days I should just leave stuff assembled. Of course the lens is broken.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 250.jpg

Oh ya, Wife bought me this cool glue system for Christmas about 6 years ago and it still works! A bit of glue, hit the UV light and instantly bonded!!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 253.jpg

Bondic, UV glue, just like the dentist fixing your teeth!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 255.jpg

Mounting bracket cleaned up and repainted Satin Black.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 257.jpg

Looking for steel for the bumper bracket, oh look.. the bolts and washers from when my 2 post hoist was shipped ELEVEN years ago!
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 259.jpg

Hmmm...
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 262.jpg

Yah, that'll work.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 261.jpg

Cutting out the piece.
superbirdfullpaintdassembly4 264.jpg

That'll work.
