Broke my 7UP Pop Machine today....

What Greg was saying... if you make it look like it came out of the factory, complete with bad gaps, paint runs, dull paint etc, if you park it beside mine with Base / Clear and 71 hours of cut and polish.. zero runs, perfect gaps, fenders/doors/quarters a perfect line. The "correct line built" car will look amateur...

It was often said that my GTX was over-restored - everything lined up nice and the paint had some life in it....unlike how it was from the factory looking all washed-out.
Dad used to buy the 'demo' cars because they were tweaked to be really nice and I believe that because my first car was a dealer demo and that thing was nice and tight. EVERYTHING was right to the point of perfection!!! It also had no rattles what so ever.

Weather broke so I could swap spots and get her in the hoist bay. Light allowed my phone to finally get a better Yellow representation as to what the eye sees.

It looks like a nice day there Wayne.
Been pouring and blowing hard for over 30 hours. Power off and on all night. Finally cleared around 3pm... rain again tomorrow so swapped spots tonight so I can set up the shifter linkage tomorrow.

I just want to say THANKS to the 2 dozen or so of you, out of the thousands here on FBBO, that followed my mess through the past year and a half. It certainly helped me get'r done. The last 1.5 years has cost me about 3 times what I originally paid for the car and a LOT of heartache and sleepless nights. It wasn't a car that I ever wanted to tear down, work on, or spend money on. I said when I bought it back in 1990 that I would never restore it or spend any unnecessary coin on it and I had managed to make it 32 years without doing so until I fawked up that pop machine...

Been down that road before.....a slight mistake snowballs into a huge expensive one and most of mine over time has cost a ton! Don't think I would have had the patient to do what you did with your car.....in fact, I know I don't! It's said that pictures do not do a car justice and would love to see it in person as your pics do show a beautiful machine. Can only imagine what it looks like in person.

You should make it a magnet and stick it on the door. It would be so.....ironic. LOL

It's a great looking 'Bird Wayne, and you have done a marvellous job of putting her back together. Congrats.

The best part is that we know you drive it plenty. :bananadance:

Using this tactic, one guy I know should wear a T shirt with an E Harmony.com logo even though his last marriage (to a woman he met there) crumbled.
Another guy should have a Sherwin Williams shirt since he painted his house 4 times over a weekend. Maybe a "Meth is bad" shirt makes more sense for that guy.

Nice job, that's a beaut for sure. Reminds of back in the 70s at home in IL there was one just exactly like yours setting on the used car lot in town.

Marvelous job as always Wayne. I know you didn't want to stick a pile of money into that car, but it was a wise move imo. At least you or a family member will recoup your investment on that one, unlike most of the rest of our money pits. Hope your insurance reimbursement fiasco got straightened out for the best as well.

Hey Wayne, this is what's so great about this hobby and site. We're here to pick each other up when our fellow man is down and needs to know he's not alone.

We're also here to share our knowledge, passion and life's experiences.

Glad to see the birds all back together and ready for an adventure!
