Hi Guys,
I have a 68 charger that I'm fixing up for street & strip. I plan on a 525hp motor, auto trans, M/T street/strip radials. I have heard that Caltracs are the way to go. I am still in the restoration mode but I think I need to go ahead and get the Caltracs to make sure my torque boxes and leaf spring mounts, etc will all fit together correctly. So I need to know what I need to buy. I see there are mono leafs, and 21" & 22" bars etc. Any info, suggestions and advice will be appreciated. My thread is titled $500 68 charger if you want to see my work so far. Here is a link to Mancini, where I may buy the stuff unless someone knows of a better deal.> http://search.store.yahoo.net/chuck...54.stores.yahoo.net/suspension---chassis.html

I believe they have also offered the correct spring and bar combos for B-bodies that have had the front hangers changed over to S/S setups too....
I agree,, call Calverts for a simple explanation of what to purchase!

BTW; I made my own, and they do make a HUGE difference, even with S/S springs!

the SS springs are shorter,so to use them on a bbody you have to use a longer front spring hanger.

Get some Caltracs mono leafs stock height, 22 inch Caltrac bars and single adjustable QA-1 rear shocks if your budget allows.
You'll have adjustability and if you have questions Caltrac has great customer service.
See results of the above setup being used in the pic below.

67-b, do you have any pics of your home made traction setup. thanks john.

I DISAGREE WITH THAT. GET THE DBL. ADJUSTABLE COILOVER FOR THE REAR.
also GO WITH THE 1" under stock ride height mono leafs 22". Ive been down that road before, with Caltracs I was 1.37 60 foot in my 63 Plymouth with a 500 ci motor:jerk:. You need 5 inches of front end travel in order for the cal tracs to work properly and a very loose frontend.

This is all true however I merely stated that "if your budget allows go with the single adjustable". They are definitely a step up from a Competition Engineering 3 way adjustable. If the singles work why go thru the added expense of the double adjustable? Sometimes you can get more with less... Then at a later date add the double adjustable shocks.
As SSR stated you definitely need the loose front end with travel.

And just a question for SSR- didn't you jettison the Caltracs for ladder bars on your other cars? Why was that- did the car out run their usefulness? Or we're they difficult to tune to get the desired results you were looking for?
His Charger with weight reduction will still be heavier than a 63, 64 or 65 B-body.

I called Caltrac, talked about what I needed, and ordered mono leafs and caltrac bars today. Will get shocks later.. Big Thanks guys.

Glad to help.
Remind us when you get ready to purchase shocks so we can all discuss what you really need for your street/strip car.

Should have just bought super stocks.

An honest thnx for your opinion, but it's a little to late and looks like you would have been out voted anyway.
If monos will do wheelies, that's good enough.
I don't want it to flip over backwards with S/Ss.:car flipper:

CalTracs are simple & work very well, you made a good choice...

Thanks, That's what I've heard. In case anyone wants to know why I went with the mono leafs- The guy at Calverts that I talked to said that the mono leaf and the S/S springs work about the same. The thing that appealed to me was the weight savings with the monos. I figured my car is a whale already and could use all the help I can give it to keep it as light as I can.
