This may be a dumb question. But, will they allow a gopro mounted to the outside of a car on the track? I'd love to be able to post se cool videos this Coming year.

Why on the outside. Most go inside the car. I used to have a GoPro mounted in my Viper when drag racing that allowed the viewer to see out the front windshield and also the speedo, tach and shifter. It gave a good overall perspective of what was going on as opposed to just pavement going by.

I would think they would not allow anything to stick out from the sides of the car or a temporary stick on mount that might become road debris on the track. Solidly attached to the roof, hood or trunk, maybe, but why?

NOPE, the track starter ripped mine right off the quarter panel last year. I was trying to get a side by side video of the guy next to me. She opened up my passenger door and threw it inside.
that was at Lebanon Valley. Not sure of Island Dragway. I will try it again at opening day. hopefully you'll be in the right lane next to me.lol getting a birds eye view of my tail lights.

I figured this may draw your attention. I wanted to mount this outside the car so I could see your headlights. Hahaha

I'll have to remember that trick when your staging.

I'd love to meet up with the two of you guys at the track . . . you guys are hilarious ! ! !

Note to self . . . don't drink anything in their presence, you're probably going to have it exit through your nose . . . LMAO . . .

You guys have fun this year . . . I'm sure you will ! ! !

And thanks for the laugh too . . .

Must be where you guys are. Around here people have them mounted on the fenders or quarters all the time. Never seen the track guys bat an eye.

LMAO . . . Yeah right ! ! ! . . .

but no matter how much engine noises I make, then the light turns green, I'll still be sitting there at the line . . .

And if I did have a windshield in the car, it would be covered in spit ! ! !

I've too have seen a few guys with cameras mounted to the outside in various placements also... It depends on where you are I guess, who's running the show... Not sure what the rules actually say... seems like it would be safer for the camera, way less wind noise too, better sound & video quality, if it was mounted inside the car... But I don't own one, so I don't really know... I'm looking forward to seeing the videos thou..

Division 1 NHRA Tracks are very strict. I'm going to put feelers out to see if Island dragway allows it. My guess is no but I might be wrong.

Shouldn't you be outside polishing your grill so that it looks good on camera?:eusa_clap:

Section 20, page 39 of General Conditions of 2014 NHRA rulebook:

A couple of excerpts:

1) Cannot intentionally be directed at the racer in the other lane without NHRA permission

2) If mounted on car exterior must be secure metal attachment...no suction cups, hose clamps, wire ties, etc....no plastic or non-metal components permitted.

3) No mounting to helmet, handle bars or steering wheel allowed.

There's some more stuff dealing with video transmittal and data transmission.
