Can of rusty worms

Ready for round 2. The battery tray area looks a little rough.

taking lots of measurements. I'm afraid that I'll have more trouble lining this side up.

This side was brutal to drill out. Lots of double spot welds which are nearly impossible to drill out completely. The rad support had 7 or 8 welds at the top and extra welding along the edge. I had to cut along the edge with a cut wheel and lots of chiseling to get them separated...a real pita!

Still trying to break off the weld.

Lots of surface rust in between the welded joints. Should be fun fitting this side!

Getting ready to install the other inner fender. First I have to fix up this bracket. Hard to believe 16ga could rust through like this.

IMG_3418.JPG

Bending up some 16ga by hand around some round rod.

Tough cutting this. I could cut it with my snips so this did the trick.

Trying to clean up the rust holes with the die grinder.

IMG_3423.JPG

It was tough cutting this little patch of 16ga. Used the bench grinder to fine tune the shape.

IMG_3424.JPG

This thick metal welds so much easier!

Have to patch this area up first. Weird how it can rust in these spots.

Checking the placement with the old one. I like triple checking these things.

Yay, that's two done! A few days of toiling in the heat and humidity but I'm glad I decided to replace them. Have to get some more grinding disks, lots of welds to grind down.

The old girl starting to look like a car again! Time for another cold one...

Heck yea, that is some nice work! Looks like it is coming together quite well.

Ever thought of just putting it out in the sun and reflowing the welds all at once :). That is the reason I moved out of Tucson to higher elevations. I am dying in the garage with 90 degree weather here in Sonoita, Az.

Oops, wrong build! There is another going on in Yuma Az that is as involved!
