This motor is scary fast and I have no idea how much horsepower it has. This was built as a pro-street 1965 dodge coronet 2 dr post car
with Copes racing trans with full manual reverse valve body with billet drum and a 3400-3800 converter.
3.91 ratio with Detroit locker. Let me know what you guys think the horsepower of this motor will be. This coming spring we will probably have it chassis dynod but until then we have no idea.

Thanks: Stan

gotta be 550+, I would think pretty easy... Where does it seem to turn on?

This thing starts at about 3500 and pulls like a bull. it seems to have endless torque. At 50 mph in 3rd or drive if you hit the throttle it roasts the tires. We can hardly open up the secondaries before running out of road.

Im gonna say your 550+ easy, I havent built one like that, but I have heard the heads flow well, plus the list of work and parts you have is impressive, any pics of this beast???

I built it for my best friend. I will try to post some pics. This thing feels way more than 550 I gave 440 source the specs and they said 700plus

Coupla passes down the left lane at South Mountain dragway will tell you how much your putting out.
Weight & MPH tells the story.

We will take it to Maple grove in the spring we are only 20 minutes away from the track.

You are a VERY lucky guy to live that close to a track. My closest track is E/town,leaving very early to beat the traffic is about 1.5 hours there,,,,,,,3 to 4 hrs to get home.Maple grove is about 5 hours for me,,,,,,,,

maybe at the crank, I thought you wanted wheel hp, hence giving us the driveline info.. I buy 700+ at the crank...

Why not track down a shop with a chassis dyno? There are so many variables that even guessing within 75 Hp on a web forum is next to impossible. A 2 degree difference in ignition timing can be worth 25 HP. Incorrect carburetor jetting can be worth 25 HP. Oil too thick or coolant temp too cold will also adversely affect HP. One cylinder with incorrect valve lash or spark plug gap skews the number as well.

I agrre that should make aroung 700 hp at the flywheel. Ron

Difficult to really say as each engine is an experiment of one. Perhaps more than 636 FWHP. I say that because, even with your smaller cam (263/275 @ .050" & .640/.630), you have made some corrections with the heads that have not been done in this very similar thread....... http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=336237

Still, 636 HP will make the engine respond as you have described.

I built a very similar 498 using unported Indy -1's. Similar compression, cam specs, header size, crossram, 750 Eddys. Made 658hp@5900. Went 10.17@133/ 3450lbs

wow that is less than I would expect... still nice numbers though, good job

In your engine, the one I referred you to on FABO and dvw's, all these engines could be making more power, but, are being held back by the cool looking intake set up. Reason being.........this engine is a 496, ported RPM heads (292 cfm @ .500, 309 @ .600 & 321 @ .700), Victor intake, 950 Quick Fuel, 10.4:1 compression, 249/255 @ .050" solid street roller, .605/.613 net lift and it makes 655 HP @ 5,900 rpm.

Those intake/carburetor set-ups are pretty snazzy looking, even I like the looks of 'em along with the 6bbl systems, but they don't deliver the ultimate in power.

Agreed, I also dynoed the motor with and Indy box ram. Same day made 707@6800. It was better from 4000 all the way up. Never ran it in the car though.
