Can you find a Muscle Car for under $1,000?

You may be "missing" a key point, but then again, an ambigous question....
By definition, the "Musclecar" definition...
1. YES
I'ts possible to find a very nice Musclecar for under $1,000.
Simply put, Rare Barn finds are happening all the time.
You can NOT find them on ebay nor Craigslist.

It is highly unlikeley you will find one for under $1,000 because of such "ILLUMINATION" of the hobby today. People are selling (asking high dollars) for crap fbecause of Barrett-Jackson auctions...

Now, can you buy a nice "hot-rod" potential car for under $1,000
YES
How about a nice Dodge Demon OR Plymouth Duster, fix it up slowly then get your self a nice 360 for the build-up?
A 1969 Plym Valiant and eventually add a built 440?

wow ski you really lost me there ...you CAN find a very nice muscle car for under a grand ..THEN ..its highly unlikely you will find one for under a grand ..?? ..I think the days of finding a barn find muscle car today where the owner doesn't know what they have OR think they have are long gone ..prices are of the charts because of these stupid car shows and auction houses being televised with 100 thousand dollar ground up restored cars selling for 50/60 thousand ..everybody thinks WOW.. not knowing a lot of these owners LOSE money ...everybody thinks his rot box is worth a fortune now ..I love these guys with junk.. they buy a couple panels and want to sell the car because there over there heads and say to you "do you know what this car is worth when its done" ..sorry off subject a bit .. enjoy your skylark put some bucks aside for a 455 and turbo 440 drop it in and smoke em if your into that

You can buy a car to build into a muscle car for $1000 or less sometimes, but not very often will you get a true muscle car for that. At least not one in decent shape.

"Just what is a Muscle Car? Exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a BIG engine in it. To balance this out, handling, braking and related essentials are modified to result in a performance machine for the streets. They tack racy names to the car: GTA, GTO, GTX, or just plain GT; R/T, SST, SS, GS or, for the lack of better initials, 4-4-2. They doll the car up with fancy trimmings and put it up for sale. And it sells like crazy"....Road Test Magazine 1967

I love seeing the reference to mid-size cars as "small" cars. :) Back then they were considered small cars, and Darts, Dusters, Demons, etc., were classified as compact cars even though they are bigger than most full-size cars today.

I found this little gem today! 68 red charger 383 2bbl car needs lots o parts for $250.00

I don't see any rust through in the cowl or drip rails.....

It and a few others maybe coming to a new home soon. I haven't been to this honey hole in 5 yrs and figured I better before the white stuff comes along. Its been there awhile, rear end is gone but on springs still, sunk about an inch to its maker. Sitting on drums at the front so the rails are still above ground. The bad part is the roof it curled a bit from some dumba$$ grabbing it with a hay loader so the roofs curled in fortunately realizing the car wouldn't lift that way. Rockers are good, lowers rear and rear window channel need patches lots of glass on the pans, but what I could see looked clean still.

:laughing11:Naw its missing the wing!:nono:

I'm okay with a Duster or a Valiant. I should clarify some. I don't mean can you buy a Hemi Road Runner for $1000. I mean something in the general Muscle Car area for under $1000. I have a 1971 Challenger, a 1997 Camaro SS and a 1971 Charger 383. I still get excited about cheap Muscle Cars. It would have to be somewhat overlooked like the Skylark. I just think that's tons of fun!! I would like to hear your ideas of cheap stuff that's still fun.

My brother bought his GTX for $800 back in 1988..... :p

It wasn't under a grand, but a buddy of mine just bought a complete numbers matching, 383 4 spd 70 Road Runner for 5500

I bought my 4 speed 70 Road Runner for $1,100 with very a brand new and very nice FE5 paint job ... in 1981

Finding a "Muscle Car" under 1K that's not a complete money pit is a thing of luck, to the point I wouldn't consider it a "find" cos it's more akin to winning the lottery; right place right time etc...

The way prices are dropping, I suspect finding a decent project car for $1,000 will be a reality before too long, especially since lots of guys are starting to unload their projects before prices drop too far.
