Car Show annoyance

What show were you at? Was it the church in Wexford?

no will never go to that one again this was south of pitt

And the Dog had his family down there and didn't hear it ....he also has cut his hair off now so hes more mellow now ;)

I had a guy from a big name restoration company come up to me at Carlilse and tell me the exhaust tips on my Superbird was a California option only and my car was incorrect. Most "car" guys i avoid having a conversation with. I don't take a car to shows anymore and at cruise-in's i will cruise on by.
j
I don't go to any of that anymore either. I got tired of those kinds of comments. The other type I get are the purists where every car should be restored to it's original configuration. I keep hearing "you should restore this back to original".... I keep asking "why, so it can look like the other 50,000 roadrunners out there?" and by the way, I know the AirGrabber isn't original.... sheesh...

In my little town there is a car club that does nothing but old (pre 63) cars to the full custom. They go the extra mile to make their cars not look like anything else on the road, and no make is sacred. I respect that you make your car your own the way you want. I do car shows but I don't hang at my car, this way I avoid the "why" or "that's wrong" comments.

I live in McCandless a few miles south of Wexford. Why will you never go to the Star Lite car cruise in Wexford again?

Oh the suffering and suffrage of The Lawn Chair Crowd.
That's why I'm going to keep it as "original' as possible.
Should I even fix the rust and cracked windshield?
I think it add character and shows vintage.

My insurance agent saw one of my personal business cards (from FABO's Tony Fields) when it fell out of my wallet onto his desk while making a payment a couple years ago. He reached over, picked it up and looked intently at it for a few seconds. "Wow! That's really cool. What is it, a Nova?"

I didn't even glorify his question with an answer -- it wouldn't have done any good anyway.

Just recently I had a gent stand in front of my car with his young son and point out that the boy was looking at the most powerful engine Chrysler ever made--the HEMI. Didn't want to make him look bad in front of his son--so I just said nothing. However, keep in mind that each person stopping by our cars is actually a compliment; they're there because something notable made them stop.

Without a doubt, the worst thing to ever to be let into a showfield is those hideous General Lee clones.

What are foamers ? Former owners?

Foamers...You know what I mean...Those that just "foam" at the mouth when espousing their distorted view of your ride and what is and isn't correct. Kinda like a Rabid animal....

There's a guy I won't name that's always parked at the local Friday night cruise-in's around here, and has his chevy done all pro-street; caged, tubbed, nos tank where the back seat should be, wide slicks, blower through the hood, custom wing on the back, the whole nine. It looks impressive so everyone thinks, based on looks, that it automatically is impressive. Except the nitrous isn't hooked up "just for show," it runs like crap because he slapped a blower on a high compression motor, and it's never even run a quarter mile... "just for cruising" :head_smack:

I understand "to each, his own" and whatever puts a smile on his face is fine by me, but the guy comes off kinda cocky and I'm not a huge believer in "Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements"

all the chrome & blower/N20, but no boost crowd...LOL...

All the show & no go

if they can't get you with HP & billet, they will kill you with Watts

to each their own, I guess

build it, how you want it & drive it like you stole it, is my motto... to an extent, tastefully anyway

The most annoying thing anymore is people seeing the ramcharger setup on the bottom of the hood then trying to look down the hood into the scoops to see if theres holes there

Good for you...
Yeah unless it's a total **** purist crowd too, that just pick stuff apart, even on a quality build, that isn't year correct or the right color or some other stupid comment.... even if it doesn't bother you, hearing it a bunch of times, gets old very fast, allot them don't even have a muscle car or collector car either, or are just the A-typical overly **** internet "know it all's", that just bitch & moan about others, those are the worst types....

I couldn't agree more. They should all be stripped & painted differently for sure. One is enough for me. Be original.

I cant count the times that I was asked if my 70 Superbee was a GTO.

yep, there's also a massive sound system in it lol or two huge subs anyway. Just not my style I guess, I'd take a super sleeper over a flashy sheep in wolf's clothes anyday.

Typical chebby guys around here! lol

Had a guy tell me how fast my car wasn't one time. Had a 71 Duster with a 470 in it about 10 years ago and had it at a Friday night local and this guy comes up and asks what it ran. Last time out, did a 9.95 @ 134 and he says bullsheet so I hand him a time slip and he says ain't no way and on an on and on. We ended up looking at each other face to face and me saying that I didn't like being called a liar and was about ready to get it on with him. He was bigger than me too lol. That's when I told him to hang on just a second....I have something I want to show you and turned around and headed for my truck to get a 'stick' but when I got to the door I glanced over my shoulder and he was gone. That's the last time I've taken anything out to one of those....

I had an L coded 67 GTX and a "father" exclaimed in horror to his son that it was minus the 6 pack.....also....did everyone have a big block or hemi in the 60's ?? I didn't

When I bought my car this winter I dint tell anyone. So a guy I know said he seen me flatbed ding my charger to my shop and he said I wouldn't answer his calls to unlock my gate for him to come check it out. A few days later me and my grandson go down to the shop and he stops and is acting like my x wife. He starts taking pictures of my fender tag and then the build sheet I just removed from the seat. I asked him to stop as this is my car not his, he gets defensive and I told him its none of his business and I don't owe him any explanation on buying the car. I tell him to delete the pictures and he gives me the whatever. We have not spoke since. At one time he told me about selling vins and fender tags. I could go on and on but I will spare everyone with the bullshit.

A guy like this is risking an *** kicking if/when they try that in SOME places.
This reminds me of the stories of that Galen guy taking pictures of cars at shows, moving stuff out of the way to photograph VINs, opening hoods, etc...

I enjoy having the car at shows, but I rarely sit next to the car. I'm out looking at other cars, the swap meet and whatever other scenery there is to ogle. I have been held hostage by nice but clueless people. Rarely do I ever run into outright ********.

It's what everyone wanted back in the day. Big Block Mopar with the 6 pack or a Hemi with dual 4bbl,s. Those that never had one (myself included, I was to young) only heard about those engines period. It was not till I got older and on my own that I learned the differences, and am still learning to this day (318 poly vs 318 la never new there were two). Myths and legends will live longer than truth and facts.

Not a fan of those either... Or the endless "general lee! Yeehaww!" comments everywhere the car goes. But with a '69 it comes with the territory I guess lol
