Car Show annoyance

When I take the car to a show I spend very little time with my car. That way people can enjoy it or criticize it as they will and I can enjoy theirs or criticize theirs (perfectly SILENTLY, mind you) as I will.

Without a doubt, the worst thing to ever to be let into a showfield is those hideous General Lee clones.

Not a big fan of "fake" General Lee's either, way too many running around, for my taste... But there are a couple I've liked that weren't real DOH show stunt cars, Kenny Wayne Shepard's is cool, I'd like it even better without all the DOH theme.... seen a few that had some great craftsmanship, but for the most part most aren't very well done... build it how you want it & drive it like you stole it...LOL... Yeeeee Haaaaa

My wife used to call me Bo Duke because I had an orange 71 Demon 340. She was born in 1978 so I tried to explain to her the differences between a B body Charger and an A body Demon to no avail. It all ended when I sold the car.

This past Friday I was at my normal Friday car cruise-show sitting with tpodwdog and a bunch of other people behind my car when something out of the norm happened. So I was sitting behind my car talking when a guy walks around my car twice and asks me a bunch of questions about it and everything which is normal BUT then he comes back and looks at me and says well how much are you asking for it ......Um excuse me? I have NO for sale signs on it or anything ...it has 1 small plaque in it that says I got the car from my dad and its not perfect but its the way he liked and etc. After he asks me how much I want for it I tell me theres no way Id ever sell it and he proceeds to get mad at me .....WTF all I said was no way never ever selling it and he got mad and stormed off ......

Some people are just idiots

A couple friends and I started giving prices of 2-3 times what our inflated value opinion of our cars are. Some people have really deep pockets and if you want it that bad I'll sell it. I can always find a nicer car. I don't have a sentimental value on my car.

Yep, I've been known to throw out a "3x what I feel the value is" figure a time or two.

I've offered my Satellite for 8K, which is not even double, but hey, it's a buyer's market :)

If there's no sign on it, and you just have to ask...

I just LOVE "Counting Cars", where the guy stops people on the street, asks if they'd sell their car, and then haggles them down...really?

I did get a msg from Mark telling me I won @ Fox Lake... left early had no idea.... I guess I was annoying by leaving early. sorry

Years ago, my Dad and I took our '66 Coronets to the local Friday night car hang out and parked next to each other. Mine a hardtop w/361, his a convertible w/383, both 440 models. This guy is lookin' at them and stops between them and looks at the fender emblems (Coronet 440) he looks up at us and says "440 huh - you've got a couple of powerhouses here" We just looked at each other and smiled...

Lol, for the record, a Coronet 440 without a 440 still makes no damn sense to me.

I wonder what kind of comments rambler 770 owners get?

Do galaxie 500 and fairlane 500 owners get the same grief?

I do know that lots of "low information" car fans think an olds 4-4-2 has a 442 cubic inch engine!

u
Same here. I park it and disappear. If needing to go back to the car, I wait if someone is looking.

Took my 70 Bee to a local show before I decided to park, dismantle, & restore. It looked pretty good at the time but had faded paint. I left it to go check out other cars there. When I returned to my car 2 people were behind in lawn chairs & 2 were sitting on my trunk lid, holding on to the rear wing & bumping their shoes on the quarter panel. I didn't say anything. I just jumped in it quickly, fired it up & started backing up. And by the way they were there with their car also. Of course it was a Chevy.

I left My car on the front lawn facing My house and went inside for a phone call...came out and the doors were open, hood open, and I asked WTF and they assumed because it was on the lawn,it was for sale. People can be idiots

Some guy came to buy parts off of me and before he knocked on the door he decided to slim jim my car to look inside, under my hood, etc. I came outside to see what was happening in his f***ing head and his friends came out of his truck and asked me if I had a problem. I ended up calling my friends while they were loading up the parts they came to buy and a fist fight ended up happening on my front lawn... Some people are pieces of s***.

Also, the best is when people talk like they know everything about YOUR car, and when you say they are wrong, they argue with you. I had a friend of a friend who's dad has a Chevy inline six, say that my car had been swapped and that it's a chevy, and when I told him he was incorrect he told me it just sounds like a slant six because it's high compression and thats it's probably been built before I got my hands on it (my parents had it before me, and before that it was my dad's friends...), he ended up getting mad and leaving the meet we were at, tires-a-blazin.

I looked outside to see someone inside my Charger, it was parked in my driveway like a normal car, not in the "for sale" position or anything...

I asked "What the #$*( are you doing?!"

they replied with "I thought it was for sale"

I replied with "did the complete lack of a for sale sign mean anything or did you just think the damn sign fell down! GET THE F$*% OUTTA MY CAR!!!"

What I find amazing with this show is that the way these guys look, it's a wonder they don't get shot. If I had dudes that looked like that coming to my house or stopping me on the street you can bet my hand will be on my pistol...

What are foamers ? Former owners?

no I think he meant "Farmers" I think...ha,ha.....Bear R.-

You continued to do business with these people ?????

Slim jim my car??? OH HELL NO!

Back to the OP, I personally do not see a problem with people asking if a car is for sale at a car show or even pushing the owner to sell it. The owner can always just say no, or put a huge price tag on it or whatever. No harm in asking.
I do have a huge problem with all of the other examples brought up about people in any way touching someone elses car - in any way - let alone the extreme of getting in it or opening the hood. There are certain events that I will not even take my car to anymore because of the type of "spectators" that show up that feel it is ok to put their hands and other body parts on other's old classics.

Two years back at the WOODWARD DREAM CRUISE my friend and I returned to his 70 Plum Crazy Challenger to find an Eastern Indian FAMILY sitting in the car--kids in the back seat, wife in the passenger bucket with the father exclaiming "Des Es a Nice Car". UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVEABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again...Wanna Be's, Foamers and Chumps. I have seen the show a few times and all their staff looks like the "DREGS" that they are. That Head Bandanna is so out of character for that Fat, over 50 Wanna Be. Vegas is full of them and these guys are way too full of themselves. I just don't ever go to cruises and shows any more. That way I don't have to deal with Clowns like them anymore....
