So I posted this before but never got a response so I'm posting it again. I have 3 1973 dodge chargers, 2 base models and one SE. One of the base models is in the best shape so I'm rebuilding it. They were all originally 318/727 cars. I'm converting this one to a 440/727. I plan on using the shifter out of the SE. It's a hurst pro matic 2. It has all of the linkages with it, but it has no center console. Did the SE automatic cars with this shifter use the same center console as the regular automatics, if not where can I find a center console since that's the only part I'm missing.

The only thing different is the metal top plate. Manuals have a larger cutout for the shifter.

That's an after market shifter to my knowledge, so guessing someone put that in at some time with the original automatic console, or perhaps removed the console. Same thing was with my 73 RR, it had a Mr. Gasket ratchet shifter in it screwed into the automatic console which was also cut up to make room for the larger shifter. I guess to answer your question, if the car was originally an automatic car with console, then you will have to find a console and modify it for use with that shifter, or build something to go around it.

Idrivemopar is correct that's an after market shift (I might add my favorite on too) you can get it at any AutoZone the car it's in was a floor shifted auto (as per the brackets) it's not easy to fit that shifter in the stock center ,they look good sitting in the center in the case it comes in(witch it looks like your missing it) but if there's a will there's a way you want a stock center and that shifter I'm sure you'll figure it out

I was starting to wonder if it might have been an aftermarket shifter from looking at it and wondering how it would fit. It's not so much that I wanted a stock center console I was just trying to figure out what went over all the brackets and all so that I didn't have it all sitting there exposed. I knew it had to be either a console or another part to the shifter. Thanks for the clarification guys

You could easley grind the welds off the brackets then when you order carpet just order carpet for a bench seat car with the auto on the column then just grab a new pro matic and install to the floor. You can get a pro matic 2 purity cheap on eBay now probably even buy just the missing parts too. Deff get out a lot cheaper then trying to find a stock console and shifter parts

Hello my name is Rory. I have a question about the shifter linkage for the 1973 Dodge Charger with a floor model automatic shift. I have all of the linkages that mount the shifter. my problem is. There is a spring that I can't figure out how it mounts. I have looked at the complete assembly and I still can't figure this out. I anyone has a video would be most help full on how to install the shifter assembly. The spring mounts in that hole in the first photo. From there I don't know the other end mounts. If anyone has any advise on how to install this spring, would be most helpful. I also can be reach. [email protected]
