Hello I'm new to this forum and was hoping to get some advice so here goes. I have a 1966 satellite with built 383 built 727 with Hughes 3000 torque converter. 8 3/4 with 391 suregrip and 27inch tires . I am building 493 stoker with 10.6 comp stealth heads ported to 300cfm on intake and 220cfm on exhaust. A m1 single plane intake manifold with 950hp carb 2inch dough headers. I have Harlan sharp 1.5 roller rockers.i want to use a solid roller cam I am thinking compcams xr286r or lunati 40230733 my car will be 85 percent street driven and 15 percent track. So any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

I think you would find either cam exciting in your car. Here is a 496 with RPM heads flowing 306cfm @ .600". We were using a Torker II single plane, a 2" spacer, Q950 and running 10.3:1 on 91 octane. Oh, and the 40230733 camshaft. 2nd column is the same engine with a ported RPM dual plane intake and no spacer.

The owner runs it on the street with the Torker II, 3.23 gears and a 4-spd. Loves it.

Thanks for your help IQ52. Those great hp/tq numbers. I will keep you guys posted on my build

I run a mild 493 in my 63 Sport Fury. But I use a solid flat tappet cam which is a custom grind from Dwayne Porter. I am at 10.6 comp with good quench as mine is a pump gas eng as I have never had race gas in it. I use the basic Indy EZ heads that flow 329 and 223 @ .600. My cam is .585 and .592 lift with 264 and 270 @ .050 on a 110 LSA. I have it in the eng on a 106 ICL. I use 92 pump mostly and 93 when the stations have it and it runs nice with no ping at all. I race it just as I drive it through the full exh system on pump. It weighs just over 3700 lbs and I use the Indy dual plane intake with an 850 Holley DP. I have never dynoed it or really got after it as I still run it with the basic setup I put it together with but its run 10.70's like this. I went with a custom grind because Dwayne Porter gave me a price that was no more then an off the shelf cam and I wanted it to keep my cyl press pump gas friendly so I knew the intake valve closing was important. I am very happy with it as the car drives and runs great and I drive it everywhere even to the track most of the time. You might want to look into a cust grind and see how you like the price. Good luck with it , Ron

Thanks 383man. Does Dwayne porter custom grind solid roller? Street roller type not too much spring pressure.because l plan on driving 1500 to 2000mls per year. As for performance mid to high 11s would be great .also that's an awesome 63

For mid to high 11s you can get by with a solid.
I'm running mid to low 11s with a 440 using an older Hughes(Engle) solid cam.
If you want to get a hold of Dwayne Porter, Porter Racing Heads

Yes Dwayne Porter can do what ever cam you need. He is very good at it as he does it everyday for a living. Thats why I went with his cam as I know alot about cams and what I wanted but I am not a Pro at cams who does it everyday as he does. You should give him a call and talk to him as he will take the time to talk with you and recommend what he feels will work good for you. Just tell him I told you to call him. Thank you "Roughbird72" for posting Dwayne's phone number and thank you "moparick"for the kind words about my car. Ron

Just getting back to this thread. My 2 cents, keep your duration fairly short, consider taller tires depending on your rear gear and converter, do talk to a pro about cam selection as cams have really come a long way in the last 10+ years. Lots of custom grinds that can match different combos.
