I forget how close and how tall the mountains are until some clouds add perspective. So my neighborhood is 7500' above sea level. I can be in the mountains in 10 minutes.

With a telescope and a mountain climb path map you can spot groups attempting to climb Mt Rainier from my town.

Can be ? Aren't you already ?

Nope, we are considered foothills. Mostly sand and sandstone from the first time the Rockies rose up and were eroded. Once you hit the Rockies proper, it's granite.

Think of the Rocky Mountains as a very slow volcano. All those sandstones from the first erosion got bent up. We know sandstone was not laid down vertically. i.e. Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.

I love to see mountains in the background! I used to visit my brother in Las Vegas and loved the scenery.
I would take the rental car and drive all over the area.
