Column shift linkage

I had a conversation with somebody else about their similar problem as well. They had this solution and while it seems solid I don't want to have to weld, bend and have to adjust all the stuff to "get" it to work if I can avoid it.

I will check the orientation when I get home, I very well may have it upside down. No I don't have that bracket, I think Kimmer was going to check and see if he had that bracket for me.

It's funny that I've spent more time on this transmission linkage set up than I had on installing an engine for it. I'm getting close to cutting a hole in the floor and reaching down and shifting the thing myself...ha

Is This what you have?

YES!
That is what mine looks like but I'm missing the bracket on the right side? and I'm not sure where it bolts into on a 1968 trans and even if it can? The 1968 trans I have is a 904, would it have a different case than a 727??

I don't think so, I am still looking.
It appears you have the correct set up just missing the bracket that bolts to the trans. Was the car original 904?

Is This what you have?

This is the correct setup. Here is the originals off my 71 Charger. As far as carlines in the manual its based off the first digit of the VIN. Charger in 71-72 is W.

Yup T2R9 that is what I have. In your picture you have the trans bracket but not the frame rail bracket.

So I'm thinking there is no provision for the 1972 trans bracket on the 1968 trans and that is why mine was all cobbled together and barely working?

Yes mine was originally a 1972 904 but now has a 1968 904.

When I got it the 1972 trans was long gone and I only recently realized it was a 1968. I've only had this car a short time.

I have the frame bracket just did not dig it out for the pic. Thats very likley on the 68 trans. Here is a pic of the boss on my 71 trans. You can see where I unbolted the bracket.

Yep, that's the problem. I don't have that spot for anything on my 1968 trans.

Soooo, I'm gonna have to figure something out then. Man I am happy this got sorted out, I really thought I was losing my mind.

Any ideas on how to go from what I have to what I need?
Maybe this? just a home made bracket?

Yup make an L shaped bracket that will mount to the flat boss you have and down to where it needs to be. Bore out a hole the size of the bushing and pop in a new one. It needs to be positioned just like the picture you posted in post 10 of this thread.

Now I know the small block (904) stuff is vastly different. I have deleted all my (incorrect posts).
Sorry for MY confusion.

Thank you so much for your help!!!!!

Maybe this thread will help somebody else in the future as well.

The 904 will use the same linkage starting in 71, the trans bracket might be different, (I would have to check my parts manual, but I think its the same). The difference we see here is because of the year of the trans.

Yes 727 and 904 are different. The 727 linkage is shorter across. Here is a some pics of the bracket. Bottom 4 pieces are all the same part. Kim
