Coolest build ever!

Shot more paint this morning. Door jambs and inside the front fenders. I am ready to put it all back on the car. Any tips for aligning the doors and panels?

Doors and fenders are on and gaps are set. Followed a post I read about taping stir sticks around the door opening and using them as shims to adjust the door. It worked great and was able to do it myself without waking up a friend at 4: a.m. I set the fender to door gap using the same stir sticks. Bolted the header panel up. ( After welding the little tabs back on). Since I am a carpenter by trade I just had to pull a sguare on the hood opening to finish off the fenders. The hood is now on the stand ready to prep.

Shot more paint this morning. All the single stage work is done. Hood is on and lined up. Got the power steering hooked up, bled and operating as it should. I ordered my new gas tank, sending unit and lokar kickdown and throttle cable. All the major body work is complete. Since the existing paint is solid I plan on using it as a guide coat to block before shooting primer.

It has been a while since I had an update. I had to use the shop for work so the fun had to wait. Finally got back at it. Laid down the first round of poly primer this morning. It amazes me that after spending 2 months blocking and filling, more imperfections pull through the primer.

Progress has been slower as summer is busy. But it's still progress. I blocked down the poly primer and touched up some spots. Shot on sealer primer, then wet sanded the sealer. Base coat shot nice. My compressor went down during clear coat so I had to wet sand it out and start again. Second round of clear went great. Now I am in the labor intensive stage of wet sanding and buffing. Worth every second when the shine comes out!! I am trying to post some pics but it's not working. I will get them on soon.

This is the most enjoyable part of a project! Seeing everything come back together. I have well over 30 hours wetsanding and buffing. I have one more round of polish to clean up a few swirls. That will come after it's all back together. Chrome is starting to go back on. Vinyl top is laying out to get the wrinkles out and it's going on this weekend. Front grill is ready for paint. Windshield is in route then starting on the interior. I will get some pictures out in the sun. The metallic doesn't pop out in the shop lights.

The front bumper is the biggest reason why I love the 71-72. I have been waiting to see it back on. All smiles here!!

Thank you guys. My phone takes terrible pictures. It doesn't do the car justice. I am usually working in the shop very early in the morning and I take pictures as I am locking up. The color is actually a metallic black cherry.

My phone lives in my tool bags five days a week. The lens may have a few scratches on it. It's just might need to take a fall from a roof soon!!

My old one is still nailed to a stud in my garage, right thru the middle of the screen with a #16.

Thank you Bob. I have enjoyed every step of the project to now. There is still a lot to finish. Vinyl top, rear bumper and interior. Looking back at my posts I realize how fuzzy the pics are. At least I can say I have done all the build so far in the lifespan of one phone. Many questions have been answered by awesome members of this group. Thanks again!
