Hi all

Please critique my launch. It is my opinion it is lazy off the line. 72 road runner 3990 lbs with me in it
Mild 440 with some mods 9:1 comp headers, lunati cam holley street dominator intake, 750 QFT carb...
3600 stall in 727 with 3.55 and. 275/60/15 drag radials

Time 13.81 96 mph and 1.9 60 foot, launched at 2000 rpms, looks like it launched good, but lazy..

Thoughts and critiques would be helpful.

It said the link was broken. But that is a pretty good 60 ft time for the et and mph

Video no worky.
for your e.t. the 60' is just about right. your mph seems to be a little on the short side for that much weight & a 3.55 gear. i would think it would be 3-4 mph faster, but i'm comparing notes when my 72 RR ran 13.60s - 13.80s running 99-100 mph w/4.10 gear at 3900#
where are you running the timing? what diameter fuel tank pickup/sender does your car have?

Thanks guys

Ok 24 degrees initial with 38 total at 2500 rpms, fuel set up is 3/8 going into a Holley mechanical fuel pump and pushing out 6.5 psi.

Mikey

Just looking at the combo I'd say bump up the compression by milling the heads & lower the rear gear to 3.91. What is your goal.

Thanks guys

well, that looks good.
the 60' looks good, just seems it should pull a little harder on the other end.
what Lunati cam did you use?

2000 rpm launch

3600 PTC 9.5 stall converter

I did one launch at 3000 and it didn't seem to dl much and actually slowed some down to 2.054 with a slower ET 14.074 or something like that with 96 mph.

Mikey

I think you just have some tuning to do. when my car was running 13s, i dropped from high 13s to basement 13s over the summer by just tinkering.
what leaf springs do you have & are they clamped?
I have found out with my PTC 9 1/2"converter the car leaves harder if i flash it from 2,200.

Yup, try a higher rpm to launch or you could even try to flash it and leave at an idle. Sometimes it'll work better, sometimes it won't. You can also try shifting at different shift points to improve the ET....

Oops, good point cranky, I tried shifting at 5500, to mess with things maybe down or up some would help..

Thanks everyone for the support

Sorry, I don't have a Face Book Account so I can't see it.

Me too !!

Maybe you could post the photos or link to the video here to maybe,
so us that don't & won't do Facebook, can see &/or help you...

good luck in the future, sounds like you have room for improvements

Budnicks, check a few posts down.... I had it posted it for all

Mike

I thought that was the same link doooooh...LOL
looks like it left OK for what you've got,

It's really hard to make informed & intelligent recommendation without seeing it &
knowing Relative air density/altitude, barometric pressure & water grains, track conditions at the time etc.

Wild a$$ guessing without actually being there...

maybe/possibly a little more squirter & different squiter cam with a longer shot
{need to see the plugs after a run with a clean shut down} it could need to be leaned or fattened up &
maybe a little more timing {helps on the bottom end, but need to keep on-top of the fuel too}
if it's not on the edge already 36* total {all in}
could be more with low compression {but don't detonate it hard with too much},

for starters, shocks & some 3.91-4.10:1 gears & a better/little loser converter,
even a 1.6:1 ratio rockers would help some too... without spending a ton of $$$$

more details on what your actually running,
what heads & what valve size, what's been done to them {big areas for improvements}
what exhaust headers or the stock Cast iron manifolds, exhaust tubing sizes etc.
like fuel pump, fuel line sizes {stock 5/16" or 3/8" ??},
jetting sizes, squirter sizes & cam,
fuel sending unit/pick up size {stock 5/16" or 3/8"},
what ignition type & box etc. & where's it & what's in it now...
Blah Blah Blah, I'm sure you know the routine...

the more info the better...

But IMHO there's room for improvement all across the board,
in your weight transfer too,
shocks can make a big difference & suspension mods too...

read Bobtiles threads,
he's been finding out how crucial the tuning & all the little tuning details help & change your set-up & performance

what are your expectations & what do you plan to do with the car ??
is it going to be raced allot ??
or just a street car with an occasional pace down the strip etc. ??

sorry not trying to be overly ****, but that's all important to being able to help...

I'm sure others will jump in too...

good luck & have fun that's what it's all about,
don't get discouraged, it takes tinkering & time....

I have a different setup, but close on the converter. I have found that my best 60 ft. times come launching at 1500 rpm.
