Critique my launch

Ok, a few more details about car

Stock fuel system which as a big block 400 car, I believe came with 3/8
Mechanical Holley fuel pump with regulator set to 6.5 psi
Stock 750 QFT slater carb which has. 82 up front with 33 squirter and 6.5 PV, which is right for 12 in of vacuum

915 heads with bigger valves and slight port job
1 7/8" headers uncapped
Timing is a Firecore big block distributor with 18* initial
34* total on that run, went up to 38* later in day , not much difference.

Front 90/10 Calvert race shocks Rancho 9 way adjustable back set at 7, I forgot to undo front sway bar.

Drag radials were ran at 22 psi of pressure

It was a cool day 52-56 degrees, no humidity

Mikey

What rpm are you crossing the stripe at?
Try shifting at 5800. Also go down to 16 Lbs. in the tires.

In your original post, you said it was a 440???

It is a 440, just originally came with a 400, so saying it was the stock fuel line for that engine.

I can try shifting at 5800, and the car hooked fine at 22, no wheel spin

ah, a little more info. i believe you have much to gain with tuning.
the 400 cars were suppose to have a 5/16 pickup/sender or at least mine did ... replaced it with a 3/8 pickup.

I have a different setup, but close on the converter. I have found that my best 60 ft. times come launching at 1500 rpm.

Yeah Bobtile,
I was referencing more,
all the little details,
not specific parts or set ups, every car is different & will want different things...

like suspension, shocks, tires, carb & ignition tune,
even rims tires & weights of rotating parts, can & will all effect ET's/MPH's,
even the launches...
then all the steps to get the car lighter, stiffer, with better weight transfer
& especially well tuned for the track conditions of that specific day/event...

every little bit/change helps get you a little closer, like your over the last year

Im not sure but it sounds like a pretty good 2 3 shifting flare on that pass. Newer trans? Manual valve body? squirters look close as I didn't see any smoke at the hit. do you have jet extensions? does the qf carb have jet extensions? I agree there is a lot left in it. I am a budget guy and use gear multiplication whenever possible. leave the rear cog in place and try a 2.74 first gearset from a and a trans. you will still have the same cruising rpm but your 60 will wake up just my .02 nice to see a local guy. Byron is my home track

yeah I think only the Hemi or possibly some Max Wedge cars with multiple carbs &
maybe the later 6bbl or Six Pack equipped, the A12's had a 3/8" sending unit/pick up &/or fuel lines...

I agree, The high gear clutch won't be long for this world with the 2/3 shift flare. I wouldn't worry about the launch at this time, its plenty good. Work on getting it to go over 100 mph. Look for more power, timing, open exhaust, jetting, air filter removal, etc. Or start pulling stuff to lighten it up. The ET is fine for the MPH. No reason you shouldn't be able to go 103-104 with your combo. What cam?
Doug

It has the lunati 703 cam, total timing is now 38* total.

The QFT carb doesn't have jet extensions.
I agree with thst flare we were not going to survive, so I just ended up trading it out for the race transmission that I built for behind my stroker engine.

Anyway, I am going to run it to more and see if we can get a little better.
