I'm in need of some custom sized MSD advance bushings so i can run more initial timing. The smallest advance bushing MSD offers is 18*.... I'm looking for 10* & 14*. A place called 4secondsflat.com offers them but they're $35 for just 2 little bushings!

Anyone know where a feller can get some that are more reasonably priced?

if your running an msd ignition have you ever thought about locking the timing and running a start retard box? that way you can idle at full advance but retard the timing for starting.

Yep..... that's what i'm doing now but my motor makes the most power @ 38* and that's just too much initial for street use even if i have a retard box.

the retard box is just for starting. the retard box may back off the start timing 20 degrees to keep from breaking starters. when the engine starts running then it goes to full advance. if this is that big cam engine, then idling at full advance isn't an issue. do some research on this. a friend of mine uses this on his 600hp oldsmobile street car. seems to work.

I've done a lot of research and tuning with this issue. I hooked up a toggle switch to my ignition to get the engine swinging then hit the switch to give it fire because of starter kickback. This works great and is easier on the starter but it's still too much initial and i don't want to lollygag around with a toggle switch every time i start the engine. It idles fine with 28* and does't kick back when starting, but with the lowest curved bushing MSD makes (18*) gives me 46* total which is WAY too much. If i have a 10* bushing which for whatever reason MSD doesn't make, then i can have reasonable initial timing and still get my 38*
