Cutting off drip rails

Has anyone done this? I'd love to see some pics if you have any?

I want to do this for my 72. I've seen it on some chevy's. I think it looks really clean.

Thoughts? Cautionary tales?

Did it on my 55 Belair as well as shaved handles and hood ornament....really gives it a sleek finished look. Downside is that you don't leave it in the rain with a window cracked!
 
I've heard that it's not as simple as hacking off the rails. It needs to be welded as well?
 
You're right, I shaved the drip rails on a 67 firebird and you cut them off then weld the seam back up and grind it smooth. Looks very clean and satisfying when done.
 
I did it, really did it on a 69 Camaro, but, it's so much more than hacking 'em off and then welding it up. I did this to a 74 Road Runner I used to have. I took the stainless trim off, hammered the edge over, welded it up, a little bondo to smooth things over and that was it. Very simple job and it looked great smoothed over. Only issue I had was when it rained (duh). The window HAD to be all the way up, or you got wet. I wish I had pictures of it but I no longer have the car and gave the new owner what pictures I had. If (when) I get another 71-74 Road Runner, I plan to do the same thing to it. One of the coolest things about it was hardly anyone noticed it until it was pointed out.
 
I know for a fact if you do it on a 40 ford coupe, it makes the rear 1/4 window look like it fell down 2 inches. that line on those cars is part of the body lines that holds every thing together. Having said that the newer cars are not quite the same. But I (as I get older) am less of a "lets change it" sort of guy. I am liking what Detroit did. It's hard to believe I just said that. Change the wheels, change the horse power, Make it stop on a dime, but leave the rest alone. And what ever you do, don't put some stupid f-ing after market steering wheel on them. Race cars not included.
