Everything on my '71 Charger SE has been good or best, and I haven't found one issue with anything yet, nor do I expect to. Anyways, I pulled the rear diff apart, and all looks great!
No rust, and well covered in oil. I found a very little metal shaves, but see nothing ground in the gears, no gears missing, no teeth missing or metal stress.
I was thinking I could:
1) Clean it all up. Do I need to remove all the oil from the housing and gears?
2) Drill a hole and tap it for a better drain hole?
3) Add a gasket or sealer and close it up.
4) Add 85W-140 non-synthetic oil (2 qts and a little more).
5) Insert axles that already have new racers and have been rebuilt (any special steps here)?
Anything I am missing?
