Disappearing oil?

No, no, no Doug, it's way more complicated than that.....:D
 
Like others suggested, complete the oil change and drive the car and check the oil at 500miles. Sometimes we tend to over think things, It's normal not to get the full amount of oil out of an engine. How long did you let it drain, that can be a factor? There are several galleries that hold oil that never full drain. This is why engines and transmissions have a dry fill and a fluid replacement fill at different values. Filters always have quite a bit of oil in it and most have an anti drain back valve that would need to be draining for a full 12 hours to get all of it out.
