Correction - DATA plates. Not VIN plates. Big difference. Another brain fart...

Just dug up this '69 Belvedere (built as a RR), but the data tag sure looks like a '68 to me. Haven't decoded it just yet; figured I'd post it in case there's some not-so-obvious B.S. going on (isn't there always with el-cheapo finds?):

WHOOP. RH27...and it's a 2-door hardtop. Major bullshit going on right there. Going to see it over the weekend, wonder what the VIN will say.

Isn't there one partial VIN stamping on the '69s that might be on the lip of the trunk panel? Let me know.

Looks like a 68 BH27 Barracuda vert to me.

Beat me to the post. I figured I read an "R" as a "B," but seeing as it's from a vert one way or the other...it sure as hell isn't this:

That said, I don't mind putting sellers over a metaphorical barbeque spit in person. Looking up the '69 hidden VINs right now.

69 is easy will have partial vin on core support and trunk lip.

68 it's the so number not partial vin but I have found that hp motors are vin stamped in all the 68s I have at the shop

That's a 68 fender tag

And it doesn't look like it's from a B-body either, as things are shaping up:

Any picture of where exactly I should be hunting on the trunk lip for it? Everything seems to indicate its under the weatherstripping. Can't expect even an honest seller to sit still for ripping up the weatherstrip.

I know where the SO's are stamped on the '68 core support, so finding the '69 VIN shouldn't be too hard.

Has an RB block in it; could be anything though. Seller don't know diddly squat.

69 vin stamping is usually top of radiator driver side facing car. Some have coolant sticker over it.

The 69 rt at my shop has it very lightly stamped and after 4 repaint a you have to look hard.

Have a 69 1/2 car here and it's stamped passenger side on the rear of radiator core support facing the car. Had to remove radiator to read it correctly

Hope this helps

Driver side trunk lip underneath the seal about 6-10 inches from the rear

Rad support Lynch Rd cars are on the driver side core support behind the radiator where the antifreeze warning decal is. Hamtramck cars were stamped below the antifreeze decal

Perfect. Thanks!

Most guys not too keen on you ripping up the trunk seal. I've got pretty good on locating it but I been looking at Mopar's for 30 years

Wow, if you have a "27" convertible VIN on a hard top, that's a pretty big red flag.

VIN on dash?

Can't wait to see the VIN on the dash. There is a much greater possibility that the dash VIN is original if that data tag is for a Barracuda. Not as if you can dash-swap an A-Body with a B-body.

But if that's RH41 and not BH41, it's a convertible Belvedere's tag. In which case, a VIN swap is a lot more likely.

RH is Satellite, RL is Belvedere

Yep, you're right. That's what owning a de-trimmed Satty will do for you...

Has all the extra trim for it too - this thing is probably an RH regardless of the data tag.

If I am buying the car keen or not I want to see those numbers. If not my cash and me walks away. it is also something the owner may want to know as well. Furthermore, they are not easily readable from underneath on most stampings.
