Do I have a fuel pump pushrod problem?

The reason they've been used for 100 years is because they are simple and they work. There have been many good ideas for the OP to check, but he has to be thorough if he's going to find the problem. First thing I would do is pull the sending unit and check the sock and also replace the rubber connector hose from the sender to the hardline with some modern FI hose. Then check the full length of the hard line for kinks or crimps and replace the rubber line on the inlet side of the pump. A good mechanical pump (like a Carter) from Mancini is pretty much all a street or even a street/strip motor needs. Yes, I have used the Holley pumps on race cars (read, lots of RPM) but on the street the noise is a bear. My opinion and it works for me.

This is pretty much what I'm planning to do in the next week or so.

I can also see your point too Rusty. Especially since a Holley electric pump is more available here in Oz than a Carter mechanical pump.

I will check the tank, pick up and supply pipe and if OK, I will then decide whether I stay mechanical or go electric.

or go the pump i went rusty the race pump woooohooooo

Yeah, I couldda got a V8 head ported for what he paid for that fuel pump. lol I bet it'll move some fuel, though.

Trick looking pump.
Patented variable displacement design accommodates 200-2500hp!
Crikey!

Hey Rusty, IF I go the electric pump route, is Holley Red not up to the job? You recommended a blue which also needs a regulator....

Incidentally, I emailed Summit thru eBag about postage costs for an item to Oz, and their response was "Sorry, we don't ship to Alaska".

WTF?

I could not help myself with my reply -
Hi There

You made me LOL!

It is a shame for those that live in Alaska you don’t ship there, but that isn’t my concern.

This is because I live in Australia – it is a very large island nation in the Asia Pacific region. You may have seen it in a crap movie called Crocodile Dundee.

How much would shipping this item cost to be sent to Australia (postcode 5082)?

Regards - Frank

Lmao, If i recall, benno went with one of these...

skip ebag altogetehr and go through summit, it will give you a rough estimate before you make purchase anyway, just remember electric pumps are noisy.

also i am pretty certain you can get a pump here in aus, maybe " rocket racing" only thing everything in the states is half the price of here, this is why i have bought everything from over da sea

That's right. I prefer using the blue pump and a regulator because you have more control. Plus, with the blue pump, you have room to upgrade without changing pumps. I think Summit has a compatible pump and regulator in their house brand.

Cool, thanks Rusty.

Benno, shipping is so much less on eBag. Eg, for a set of 8.75 gears, on eBag shipping is $24, on the Summit website cheapest shipping option is $80....

BTW, I hope you get your starter fixed and fire that stroker real soon!

thanks for the kind words bud, hopefully tonite we start it i will put the video up

Please realize that if you end up using the electric to compliment the mechanical, and decide you do not like the noise (I didn't), you cannot switch it off as it is not a feedthru pump. I learned that lesson on the highway, LOL... The Holly red race pump MUST be running in order to allow fuel to flow thru.

I agree with checking the sock and pickup as they could have a problem, and the rubber hose between the pickup and hard line could have a pinhole. I had this problem also, and it caused a fuel starvation problem as it was sucking in air.

Good luck.
