Does anyone do "research" on the forums anymore?

I've seen allot of people get treated like idiots for asking perfectly good questions, you guys have to remember that not all have been around Mopars as long as some of you. I've had my share of questions and don't even care to ask anything anymore because there's always an *** just waiting to be rude about it. Just saying

Exactly... It's one thing to just be plain lazy and not spend a matter of 2 minutes surfing the "For Sale" ad's to find what you're looking for, and i'm pretty sure that's the point SKI was trying to get across. It's another thing to be new to the hobby and/or site and not have the knowledge or experience to find the answers to your questions. On top of that, have you guys used the search function lately? It's about the equivalent of going to Home Depot for a load of landscape rock and they show you to Mount friggin Everest. Even if you fill out the advanced search options, it keynotes your words in every sentence possible. It's not very refined at all.

Sure, for us guys that have been playing with Mopars for a while and/or been on FBBO too long, the redundant questions keep coming and going. It does get a bit old, but generally most find the time to genuinely answer relevant questions. Some should take a look when they were not so sharpened on their mopar knowledge and understand what it would be like on that side of the fence, just asking a question that to a lot would seem obvious or fairly easy....But to them, out of reach. Prosecuted or belittled for asking a question? IMO, for A-bodies has an environment more like that and it just plain sucks. Roaming bands of search function police on broomsticks, waiting for that unsuspected newbie to ask the same questioned asked 2 months prior. Strike'em down! No thanks, that's not cordial, classy or the respectful thing to do. It's just arrogant, ignorant and shows what kind of person they really are.

Yup, agree with Propwash. If it appears to me to be a case of the "lazies", I just ignore the post and move on.
That's what's great about "Amurica" - youse got choices!

So, I had a Snicker's bar...

This is me before and after the Snicker's:

It can get frustrating I bet. I would think that most of those kinds of posts are done by car guys whom aren't that computer savy. I'm happy to report that I've never got egg on my face when asking stuff....except from 'SLEEPAR' once but I ignored that guy easily enough.

What a bunch of cranks! People are just looking for help. And IMHO the search function on this site ain't the greatest. It seems like it either finds zero threads... or ten thousand. If you don't like a post.. move on :p And like someone said, this is (or seems to be) one of the best resources on the web for info and HELP. But you seem to get a mix of good people who want to help.. and cranks who just want to complain or belittle.

if everyone searched for an answer before asking their question..... no one would have to ask........ there would be no new threads...... and the site would die........... and that would suck........

True blue. Hobbyists want to Interact, it is normal, and good as well. That is how it works, I believe. Dumb question or not, at least someone answers the question, which is good.

And if I could only remember what I forgot or misplaced I would not have to ask. Been working on these over 40 years and always something new to learn or remember.

As a relative noob who has probably asked the occasional offending question, I should say that I extensively search the forum before asking a question, but a couple of things to keep in mind.

1. The search function is not the most in depth
2. Results often include threads that don't contain consensus... Members providing differing answers.
3. multiple threads with differing answers to what seems like the same question.
4. Outright arguments with no clear conclusion (rare, but it happens).
5. Posters that state a problem, members answer but the OP never posts stating the problem is resolved.
6. Thread you find is very old and while said retired or deceased honored member probably gave the right answer, I don't know him or his experience from Adam... While I could say who knows anyone online, after a few years on this site, you start to figure out who knows there stuff about the thing you are asking and start to build trust in the responses.

These things will often lead me to ask a question asked a thousand times... One more time and I'm incredibly grateful and indebted to a vast number of members on this site for throwing me a bone and answering it one more time.

All that said.. I saw the WTB 400 exh manifold post and rolled my eyes as well... Does this mean I've graduated from noob to general know nothing? Probably not.

My suggestion is, just ask the question as simple as can be, Then, wait for an answer. Don't be offended by the minority of Idiots that are Inconvenienced, as someone nice will answer. Every hobby has a few that think they are God's greatest gift.

If different folks are asking the same question over and over, that sound like a candidate for a new sticky!!!! I'm guilty as well of asking something that I probably could find in search, but not always obvious, I do try and search now, and maybe I am not helping the situation by providing folks with answers when I can even though I know they have been asked before.

I would say keep it in the spirit of the hobby. What's the big deal? so they ask repetive questions, ever raised kids I ask? HA HA

I think a section dedicated to all of the posted dyno results from board members and no commentary (except parts list) to muck it up would be extremely helpful. Carb and cam questions are never easily answered especially threw online research because of all the variables but on here we're almost all BB and BB strokers making the comparisons more accurate. I've learned more by reading the dyno sheets on this forum than anywhere else as to what works, what doesn't and what kind of numbers to expect.

I had a question, but I forgot what it was.
What was my question?

:shruggy:We're not all like that, are we?:sad7:

I can understand both sides as I usually research and read and then read and research some more, but it seems I have no self confidence in my opinion because I still seek out more advice on this site. I thank all the people on FBBO for just being a great bunch of folks....best site around in my opinion.
