Does anyone do "research" on the forums anymore?

It would make for a boring forum in my opinion. Research can take place on google without being a member here

I think a section dedicated to all of the posted dyno results from board members and no commentary (except parts list) to muck it up would be extremely helpful. Carb and cam questions are never easily answered especially threw online research because of all the variables but on here we're almost all BB and BB strokers making the comparisons more accurate. I've learned more by reading the dyno sheets on this forum than anywhere else as to what works, what doesn't and what kind of numbers to expect.

I second that

I get plenty of ideas through this forum and the wealth of knowledge of its generous membership.

Then I research those ideas as much as possible through reading, the Internet and my network of friends.

Some people have more knowledge of MOPAR then others kind of like the "DUMB QUESTION THING" a question that might seem simple to one could be complicated to another.
That being said.
Some people have very little computer skills. One person could locate the same question in the history some couldn't locate it if their
life depended on it. I know I still haven't figured out how to post a avatar

I used to go to another site that was local which was nice. Started out as a real good site. Some people on there would be quite rude on the reply. It ended up that people were reluctant to make posts or ask questions. The site is all but dead now. There is only one or two posts a week.

Several years ago I joined this site under another handle. I was new at it didn't know a lot about protocol.
I asked a question. I hadn't done a introduction. A guy, a top poster came at me like I had just shot his dog.
A long story short I didn't come back for 2 or 3 years.
It's easy to deter people from coming back. Like some one else said someone can GOOGLE,,.
Without the population and posts (dumb or not) it would be a boring place
Just an old guys opinion

If I see a question that I know has been asked many times over I'll typically just do a search myself, find a good thread, copy the link and reply with "A quick search brought up this link... it should answer your questions"

Now I've helped them with their question and taught them about the search function in one shot.

"What color was the General Lee?"

It was Sherwood Green, but with my color-blindness, it shows up all the time as some obnoxious shade of fllippin' orange!

"What color was the General Lee?"

The clothing, or skin colour?

I've seen allot of people get treated like idiots for asking perfectly good questions, you guys have to remember that not all have been around Mopars as long as some of you. I've had my share of questions and don't even care to ask anything anymore because there's always an *** just waiting to be rude about it. Just saying

Over the past couple years of relearning these cars by asking a lot questions on this site, I've found it's usually the same people who think it's fun, smart, cute, intelligent, superior, to rip someone for a legit question. They also have the same attitude about nearly everything, which is why I've blocked them. Life is too short to listen to condescending bloviation.

This is a hobby for most of us. We are living in some pretty good times right now as far as decent aftermarket parts are concerned. This is because money can be made and there is a following of members so to say. So it is a win for almost everyone.

Granted there are some people who are just damned lazy and don't want to do any research. However there are also people who just don't have the knowledge either computer wise or "car wise" to know any different. If we treat everyone like they are lazy / stupid then eventually we will all lose. That's why I try to offer answers if I know what the real deal is.

Try to treat people like you would want to be treated. It is good for us and this web site too. We need to try and get more of the younger generations involved with our cars or they will fade away into oblivion.

Do we want or need that???? Bad Karma is a bitch.

I agree. Life is TOO short.

I might just disagree a little bit; I do a lot of research before I come here and spend hours trying to find my own fix. I think some of the issues arise from frustration. Plain and simple! People get tired and frustrated and their mind goes numb. My two cents. Its happened to me and others.

But I do agree do your research first.

The infamous "WIW???" questions should get a permanent ban. Put a price on the damn thing. If your inbox fills up, your phone is on fire from the return calls, and your voice mail is full, you might have it priced right. If you hear crickets, you've got it priced too damn high! Pick a number and see what happens! Best of all, actually spend a few minutes to see what other people are asking for the same or similar item! Holy Crap, a little research! What a concept! Plus, we are not here to provide free appraisals based on "I have a Plymouth with a big block. What is my car worth?"...and always with NO pictures to accompany the stupid question. My answer to those jackwagons is "Somewhere between scrap value and a million dollars. Pick a number."

Ultimately, the answer to EVERY SINGLE "WIW" question is: What the buyer and seller agree to. Period, dot. Every time.

How awesome would it be to have a time machine and go back to see the "Why Don't They Do Their Research?" crowd when they were at the same level of expertise as the folks who are new to the hobby and our site today? I'll bet the couldn't stand the types of people who treated them they way they are treating the newbies today. :)

I still think most of these issues could be corrected by having a Body of Knowledge section and timing out For Sale ads after 30 days.

Every one with a want or for sale ad should add Found or Sold in header to save people time
It would be nice for people searching

I do research but I always don't get what I am searching for. I get a bunch of other search results I am not looking for. So the search engine needs to be tweaked. My two cents, plus a quarter.
