Does this happen to you? Does it bother you?

I've got a different suggestion... get busy on it. :) I used to get those visits when my Road Runner was sitting in my driveway looking like crap, but they stopped once I got it looking good.

Let's be honest oh members of the Door Knocker Alliance... how often have you gone up to the door of someone's house where it's obvious the owner is actively working on their vehicle? Now, how often have you gone up to the door of someone who's house you've driven by for months and you haven't seen one sign of progress on their vehicle in all that time? If you're like 99% of us, you don't spend much time bothering owners of rides that show signs of being worked on, but you can't resist asking about the ride that hasn't been touched in months. ;)

If your truck is sitting around untouched, either due to lack of funds or time to work on it, it screams "this guy will sell if you make the right offer because he ain't working on it" to every car flipper and hobbyist who sees it. Start showing signs of progress and the visits will stop.

I have been working on it, but I'm trying to find a new frame to put under it since the original one was butchered for chevy power (and I'm putting ford back in it). Hoping a 90 Ford Ranger long bed comes my way since the frame is very close to the original, unless a 52 frame comes first to me.

Hey, easy on them Fords, but I'll admit that's a pretty funny observation!

I have bought a couple of cars sitting on a driveway but they didn't have Not For Sale signs in them. WTF?? I have a hemi Charger I want to sell and I'm a little disappointed that no one is knocking on my door. Send them my way.

Put a few NOT FOR SALE signs on it

the last guy that tried to buy my Rd Runner while it was in my garage took a strange approach. he asked if i'd sell my car? I politely said "no, I've had it since the late eighties & it family now". he told me about the numbers matching one that was in way better shape for $7500.00 he passed. I told him, "you should have bought that one. i'd rather burn this car to the ground than have you own it!" he asked if i'd take down his number in case i changed my mind? so i grabbed a pen i knew didn't work & scribbled his contact info down... he noticed it didn't write & said so. I said," that's ok, i have no intention of ever calling you. now its time for you to F%$K off, I'm busy."

a buddy of mine took a different approach once. he had a rusted to death '70 'cuda he pulled out of a field. guy kept bugging him to sell. buddy repeatidly told him no. the guy called one day and said he was on the way with his trailer and cash.buddy said don't come here, it's not for sale. guy showed up. buddy said it's not for sale. guy kept pestering him. so buddy climbed in his '50 something chevy truck with a flatbed, and proceded to ram into the side of the car, then he flipped it over on it's roof. guy asked if he'd sell the rearend. buddy walked into his garage and brought out his torches and cut the rear into three sections. guy looked at him and said you're an asshole. buddy said, yeah and I told you the car wasn't for sale. guy got in his truck and left.

I guess your buddy really showed him!...I think? :edgy:

Instead of selling, he turned junk into complete and utter garbage. An example of what NOT to do.

well like I said, the car was rusted to death. but it had a few piecey parts he was after. even the rearend was junk, the gears were rusted and locked from sitting so long. and he had already removed anything good. extreme......yeah. but when someone tells you repeated times not for sale....then stop asking.

I like hearing about idiots like Basket Case's friend. :) Some people forget that times change, and situations change. I've known lots of guys over the decades who swore up and down they were going to be buried in their cars! Then another baby comes along, or they get laid off, or get into some other financial bind and then they're calling me up saying "remember when you said you interested in the Road Runner?" What's even funnier is when they start bringing up old offers that I made to them. :) I get the "remember when you offered me $25,000 for that car that's now worth $10,000? Well, I'll take your $25,000 offer." lol

I'm always very nice and polite to any one who inquires about my car, and I do take down their personal info when they offer it. I'm not such a fool that I don't realize my circumstances can change overnight, and while I may have no intention of selling now, that doesn't mean I won't have to change my mind later.

Not sure I understand the logic, if its junk, and someone is too bent on buying it, its sold. I had a 72 les Paul that had a bad road trip. It fell onstage, cracked the neck. Repaired that, flew to some gigs in Alaska where the airline managed to both soak it and freeze it. My tech never could get it to play right again. A friend kept asking about it, I kept saying it was junk. Eventually, I became $700 richer, and its hanging on his wall. Both of us came out ahead....I got more than it was worth, and he has a 'piece of art', though I think he tells ppl he was on tour, lol...

I always tell those kind of people they can buy the car for twice what it's worth. When they ask how much that is, they usually walk away. If they want to pay twice what it is worth then that car is sold!

I know you said that its NOT for sale but put a for sale sign on it anyway. Then mark $25,000 on the windshield. Make sure to add a few primer spots on it also. Then they will think its a waste of their time for stopping & maybe they will stop wasteing yours.

Now that's a good idea!
