Do you have any special commands you've had to teach your dog? Not the sit, lie down, stay, things. Diesel is so big he has to learn to "scoot over" and "go on" because he just gets in the way of things and at 160 pounds he's impossible to move without cooperation. I always wanted to take him to hospitals as a therapy dog but the chance he could block a hallway during an emergency concerned the staff.

I have a deaf shepherd. We have been trying to train him, but it's not easy. Command #1 has to be "look at me", so he can see the next command.
He still has trouble with the first one.

tap your foot or knock on a wall quickly three times? A Milk Bone lobbed at him? They are always looking for another. Then see how long it takes the rest of the pack to learn you aren't talking to them. we can only imagine what a knock on the door starts in your house.

neighbors got a dog who very quickly learned: "It's me" when I was walking around outside of the shop. Trouble is: they got a second dog and when one quits barking at me, the other thinks they missed something and starts up again. I had a squeak toy in some stuff that came in so I squeak it a couple times and toss in the air. They are transfixed for a moment and will go back to sleeping... until I bang something

I was told by a good friend of mine who’s a trainer both of you are getting trained. She has been doing it for years.

A dog training class that doesn't include the owner too, strikes me as almost worthless.

I was given about 4 hours of training with my dog. I am learning quite a bit as I work with him. He marks really well. He was marking the ball I threw for him. I really need to work more on his social skills.
I am anxious to get him over some quail and some chukar. They will hold so he can work on his pointing skills. This spring I bought 20 quail and 10 chukar. Picking them up next week.
