Here's one for the books.
We have a large property, so the three dogs run around on their own outside in the yard (a compound with solid wall all the way around). However, a couple of weeks ago I began taking our 3 year-old female Doberman on walks down the street and back (about seven blocks) twice a day for training purposes.
Almost all the neighbors have one or more dogs, some run loose in the street, and others are fenced in. We probably pass 25 or more dogs on the way up and back. Of course, most bark up a storm as we walk by. There are also dog droppings all over the neighborhood that no one picks up.
The "funny" behavior with respect to our lovable Doberman is this:
1) she has never barked during the walks, no matter how much the other dogs bark;
2) she has never urinated/defecated during our walks, no matter how much smelling around she does around what liquids/solids the neighborhood dogs have left in our path;
3) I keep the leash very short, and about half the time she is pulling it taught, but no matter if there is slack in the leash or if it is pulled taught, as soon as I stop walking, she also stops dead in her tracks.
