DOGS

Well, I’m sad to report that we had to say goodbye to this sweet old girl yesterday. Such a great dog, a rescue that we raised as a pup. The kids wanted a dog, I wasn’t sure, but I knew she was going to be mine when she came home with the family, it always happens that way. 15 years of the best life a dog could live, and 15 years of true love between her and I. I had a dog when I was a kid, but she was my first and only dog as an adult, and she taught me to love all dogs, and opened my eyes to what wonderful creatures they are. She was a gift from God, now gone back to live with Him until I see her again. RIP sweet Bella, your empire is safe now. See you soon good girl!

Sorry to hear of your loss..spoil and love them while they are at your side.
Sounds like you did exactly that.
It's tough to let go, but cherish the time you had..15 is a great run.

She will always be with you. Cherish her memories and know she will never be gone.

Cosgig, I am so sorry for your loss of beautiful Bella. Dogs have a way of imprinting on our hearts from day 1. Bella had a great run. She was filled with the joy of having her person to love, and how lucky she was to have you and your family to love her too. Take solace in the fact that she has gone to a better place and is waiting for you to share in her joy. Run free Bella

Ever get the feeling that your
devoted best friend
understands every word?
Was in the basement today
shootin' a game of pool
when I noticed Trip sitting
up and his gaze locked on
me.
I asked him what he wanted.
His immediate response
was two quick glances
towards the ceiling in the
direction of the upstairs
back door. then returned
eye contact. It's amazing
to me how much of the
english language he's keyed
into.
"Squirrel" drives him to
an instant rage.

We've been going to the creek to cool off... and run. Never seen this other dog before, but they played like they were old friends. His owner and I enjoyed watching them.

My dog something is up, Elvis isn't eating his treats or his dry food
been about 10 days now
he does eat scraps of the table when we eat

It's been brutally hot here, he's been couped up for most of it
I'm cautious when it's hot now
he already had heat exhaustion once about 3-4 years ago
while staying outside on the deck laying in the damn sun
I kept hosing him off
& he'd keep doing it

I hosed him off yesterday & he seemed a bit better
probably just a lab/water dog thing & water

I checked his teeth see if any loose or problems
& his throat for sores or blockage :blah:
felt around all his body for bumps or injuries
poking around his joints, then his belly & innards as best I could
can't feel anything that's not normal feeling

he's peeing & pooping fine

one day Wed. (IIRC) about 5-6 days into this crap
he was limping/dragging his foot on his right rear leg
(let him outside he's like nothing happened :BangHead: I'm baffled)
the next day
(Thur.) he was full of energy & wanted to play fetch,
with his tire, his Elmo or stuffed duck, no limp at all
then the following day
(Friday my birthday) he was limping again,
but this time dragging his left rear leg/foot just like
he was dragging the rt. rear 2 days before/prior
Sat. just laid around most the day,
goes out to do his business
seemed normal, that morning he's fine limp wise
Today he's just laying around mostly,
wants to go out every hr on the hr
my sister is coming down & bringing her male dog Konni
(Belgin, they're buddies, I hope he's/Elvis's normal & acts right)

Now he still won't eat his milk-bones or dry food
he gets 2 small variety pack Milk bones, every morning like clockwork
or treats/pup-peroni's every night at 9pm like he wears a watch & tells ya'
(he's crazy for them)
Now the Pup-peroni's I have to break them up, in lil' pieces
he barely even eats them even then, I have to coax him to eat
He hasn't touched the dry food, still
he usually eats about 3 cups a day... he's a 105# dog

I throw out the stuff in the bowl, thinking it may taste stale or something
put fresh in & he just ignores the bowl
drinks water goes back & lays down

My dad when he eats breakfast
he put stuff in his bowl & he gobbles it up, normally
not for the past week+

It's not like any lab to not be food/treat driven ever

otherwise he acts relatively normal
albeit a bit lethargic at times
it's hot
we have the A/C on, I'm keeping him in more than normal

He doesn't look like he's getting skinny or losing weight etc.
he eats plenty of people food to keep him going,
but not with the vigor he usually does, sort of takes lil' nibbles
instead of gobbling it

I'm sort of baffled

he lays over the A/C vents every time it comes on
he's done that most all his life

I can't get in the vet until Monday afternoon

I'm wondering if it's just the hot weather, heat related relapse
but the legs limping deal
or being lethargic when he's normally pretty spry active
& not eating treats/dry dog food Pro Plan he loves chicken & rice, for 10 days now

the not eating part, he did when he had heat exhaustion the 1st/last time
took about a month to get 100% again
they told me he could get it easier now, he loves being outside & running
crazy dog lays in the damn sun on the deck

I put a kiddy pool out there he wouldn't get in it
that's not normal, he's usually drawn to water, & lays in it
even when it's cold, I had put it up for a while
tired of drying him off every-time he went out back

Now though, all the stuff (the limping & lethargic symptoms) sort of makes me think
it's neurological somehow...

Anyway just worried about my fur son...

anyone have any ideas, even the Vet-tech lady over the phone, was baffled
she 'Knows Elvis well'

I hope its the heat. Thor loves laying in the sun but its been really hot here in SC. I make him come in. Not good for the dogs or anyone in this heat.

I ain't no pro but found
similar behaviors.
I stopped feeding scraps
and table tidbits to Trip.
He has since settled into
the hum-drums of regular
feed. I'm thinking it's
primevil as dogs relate
not only to taste, but to
texture. There ain't nothin'
in nature that tastes and has
the texture of dry dog food,
but there's nutrition enough
to keep them healthy.
Not only that, but dogs
thrive on the attention
given when food is shared.
It's more or less the pack
mentality.

I hope he is going to be ok, just heat issues.
Toga was keeping an eye on me earlier.

It's about 10*s cooler now, supposed to be a few days of it 90*s not 100*s

Thanks for the responses guys...
It helps...

Elvis/he was a bit more active & running around with Konni
yesterday, neither of them would eat much, even treats or people food
too busy playing chasing balls & drinking lots of water
(Konni (12) is NOT good at giving the ball back, but Elvis (9) is a lil' younger & faster)

I'm going to the vet later this afternoon
we'll see what she says

:thankyou::luvplace:

More often the not one of our dogs would eat something it shouldn't have causing it 2 lose appetite. Several times a limp was caused by something they stepped on and took a few days to recover. Possibly a burnt paw if it's hot. Certainly if it's hurts too much..I wouldn't have an appetite either.
