DOGS

I really should take some photos I need to do some later...

my Baron in now tomorrow 6 months old, he weighed 54.7lbs yesterday
getting big, notices the deer & turkeys a lot more now
he's a fast lil' dude, caught a quail the other day, ran it down
probably shouldn't have let him off leash, my fault not his
he did release when I said so
I think it was fine,
it ran off, but didn't see it fly anywhere...

So my daughter adopted her first dog today, she's turning 9 so it's time for some responsibility. She's doing ok with the other two, a little iffy from time to time but we'll get there.

I have Friday off, Dutch and I will be in a bit of snow hopefully getting Buffleheads and Bluebills.

That's cool, where did you get that photo ?

My old dog Buddy (Lord Budnicks) was like that
he found a baby squirrel on the ground by a cedar tree,
carried over to me, real soft mouth & he was really protective of it
I fed it with a eye dropper, baby formula, then acorns from the tree next to us
for like 2 weeks, lil' bugger was crazy climb everywhere,
got into everything, had to let him go...
But he stuck around for a while, stayed in a big Ponderosa Pine out back...
eating pinecone nuts, shredding pinecones like crazy...
When he was getting well, Buddy would watch me like a hawk, hovering
the animal control & Ca. F&G people said it would just die,
their rehab lady wouldn't take it, I figured I'd try (big softy)
But he lived, I don't know how...

Even after 'Rocky' a big male grey squirrel, f--k'd with him (Buddy) all the time
chatters at him, from the top of the fence/gate & teased him constantly
I figured Buddy hated squirrels, he chased them...
The orphaned squirrel would come & visit every so often,
I had a pie tin with seeds & acorn on the deck rails out back,
I put out every morning for like 6 months
then he just disappeared...
Probably a cat or coyote got it, a turd probably now/then...

When I was in Rancho Murieta (Buddy) he found a fawn all curled up
went over & sniffed him, it followed us home,
I didn't know what else to do but try & take it back
where we (me & 2 of my girls) 1st saw it, it kept following Buddy...
They wanted to keep it, NO...
No sign of the doe/momma...
Local Animal group volunteers came & got it,
the dude was a toothless 'banjo playing' looking guy,
the lady with him, wasn't much better, fat lady, poorly dressed...
I really didn't want him to take it, but he/they was/were the authority
on fawns/deer, sent over by the county for rehab...

I found the picture somewhere and thought it was a sweet thing that the dog did for another animal. It is nice to see that sort of response that some animals have for another.
Heck, it is great to see when people do it too.

That reminds me of when I was little and we had this dog that did not like our cats, they fought all the time. But the main thing the dog seemed to get was a kitten is a baby and helpless and would be gentle with them. I seem to remember her even gently carrying a wounded rodent when I was 5. She was a really cool dog that I rode like a horse a couple of times, my mom named her Jolie.
Now I need to dig up a pic.
Edit found one. White dog is her and I think the black and white cat was her nemesis Bertrill. Crappy pics but a memorable dog considering that was 50 years ago.
