Numbers look good. How many cubic inch? How does it run in a car?

451 cubic inches. It never was purposed for a car. It's now in our shop truck with iron heads and detuned to 580HP.

What was done to gain 60hp? What was doe to the rocker system to correct geometry? The numbers are always impressive in these engine shootouts. Just like to see how a few of them actually perform at the track. My car runs quicker than many that make numbers that I don't think I'm capable of.

60 hp. After the dyno contest we went home and changed the fuel, air hat design, camshaft, worked with the timing some more and ran on a different dyno. All were contributing factors.

Nothing was done to change the rocker arm geometry.

Geez Doug, give yourself some credit, maybe you know how to better set up a car's suspension than the guys who claim big horsepower numbers. I'd wager you're a damn site better at it than me.

I'm on the other side of the coin. No dyno but lots of track time. It's been my feeling that the majority of Mopar big blocks don't have enough cylinder head for big cubic inch. That being said I run a big motor since they cost the same to build. My feeling is low RPM will keep it together, I hope. My bet is a 528, 540, and a 572 will all make about the same HP, just at different RPM levels due to head flow restriction.

Hey guys, between reading all the comments and talking with my machine shop buddy, I decided to go with a flat top instead of the dome style piston. Picked out ICON IC828 flat top. Thank you for all the help.

Brings up my next question... But thats for another thread!

Question, are you really going to purchase any of these parts based on the random opinions of people that you don't know other than on line ? Really ? I would talk to a shop that is highly recommended by people that you know and who have experience doing this type of build and can give you referalls. You can't do too much research before you jump in, but you can't take the bullet back, so to speak, after you pull the trigger.

You betcha I will. Not the first time I've looked for info from people on this forum (Joined Jun 2010) and it will not be my last. We have an awesome group on here with a ton of knowledge. Am I basing my decision on purely advice on here? No, but I am using it to bring up different things that I maybe haven't thought about.
