You realistically expect 100% perfection with 318 million items a day going thru their hands?
I have worse stories than that, and very frustrating.
My favorite is a lost certified mail investigation that spanned 5 weeks. They contacted me twice over a 3? week period stating they had not found it.
The day after the second reply, the certified mail that required a signature when I mailed it, showed up in my mailbox, without being signed for and i never heard from them again. :eek:

I've never had a problem. I wrap stuff together, and tape well.
Fed ex is less on large. But hard to beat flat rate coast to coast.

They're the only company that will always be here. They may not always be the very best, but we need a delivery system that isn't run by money for the people. The mail is a necessity and shipping in general is through the roof. It's not a business, per say, it's a staple. The Postal Service processes and delivers an average of 318 million mail pieces daily.

Just because they handle a lot of mail doesn’t mean we should let them do as they please.
I’m not an expert on the USPS, but they are some sort of either a business or government institution.
As such, they should answer to us, the customers/taxpayers.
Service should be good and cost effective, which it is not.
 
They all suck at one point in time so its luck of the draw regardless of whom you use .

And dont both paying for insurance,,,,,They WILL find some way out of it to pay the claim.

They are a government agency. The importance lies in the fact that unlike UPS and FedEx, they can't control us through threats of shut down. Tell me the last time you got a great deal shipping a letter or a package through the other two openly public traded companies. It's about it's inability to not hold us hostage as a nation.

My mail can come through Hazelwood and then to Earth City, before hitting Saint Charles. You're right about Hazelwood.

That’s sort of an obscure argument.

A couple of years ago I mailed financial documents from Canton to Cleveland, about 60 miles. I sent them certified mail.
They never got there, and there was never a trace. USPS did nothing to help.
What good is this? I they aren’t dependable what good are they.
I don’t remember ever losing a package through UPS. The cost for UPS ground isn’t bad.
Oh, and USPS won’t deliver to my kids houses in Colorado

Things happen and I have been bitten by, USPS, UPS and FedEx before. I'm sure you're right. If I were you, I'd teach them a lesson and never use them again.

These are the issues that led to de-regulation (economic) of the trucking industry in 1980. Prior to that time, it was treated as a public utility, and weak carriers were propped up with pricing that was far worse than shipping costs out there today. The other issue was the Teamsters' control over half the industry capacity, essentially enabling the union to shut down the country at will. Shipping costs have gone up steeply in recent years, but they're a bargain compared to the prices set by public utilities commissions in the 1970s. The Teamsters still control half the small package movement through UPS, but non union FedEx provides a buffer.

Never is a strong word. I try to never receive Fedex packages at work since they can’t find my address even though it’s a mile from their hub.

I use USPS all the time to receive the bills I can’t change to electronic, and all those great unsolicited credit card applications, election flyers, and offers to buy my house.
 
I’ve had mixed results with usps. They’ve lost a couple small packages from overseas. My favorite was when I ordered something from Los Angeles, made it to Seattle fine, then they sent it to North Carolina, then finally to me in Idaho. Took like 2 weeks. Annoying as hell. But super efficient…. Not! Your tax $ at work

You receive it for free, the sender of the junk mail pays the postage cost to the USPS for each piece of mail. Fact!!

Agree, but the object is affordable delivery for the country. You'd scream if they charged you what it really cost. I hated paying 150 dollars for my work boot, they never made me a dime, but my job did. The cost of doing business. Social Security isn't a money maker either, but lord knows no one wants that one to stop. It's like doing business, you take the good with the bad.....Ulli
