Don selleck's 68 charger rt project

thanks Justin, been a busy summer I was hoping to be a little further than I am, but life happens! hope all is well!
It does get it the way sometimes my friend but man the car looks AWESOME!....All is well here....

thanks, i glad, I was just posting in your thread about the scale model of that sweetheart of yours own being made

well bumpers are cut and rewelded took pretty much 3/8" off of each side both front and back. it does look quite better they lay in the contours of the quarters and fenders don't have a real good shot of those yet but will have my car back this coming weekend. mufflers were a little of a dabockle was waiting for them to come and called summit they responded with an email saying they were 3 weeks out after telling me they were shipping that coming monday which was 2 weeks ago, I called Borla direct they confirmed that they were a few weeks out and that they just received word about the warrranty from summit that day, in other words according to them summitt never contacted them prior to my inquirery of where are they? mean while my car is disassembled at a buisness taking up space. So I told borla the story and asked them if they had any other similar mufflers and they did, the reviews were that they were good performance muffler and reasonable sound, they are the pro xs model so hopefully there a little closer to what I wanted. the s type sounded mean as hell but when i opened my cut outs there wasnt a whole lot of difference which kinda defeated there purpose, and have a quieter ride and loud when I want it that way.

That's some sweet work on the bumpers! Too bad about the bad muffler. I had a Jegs seamed muffler blow up on me which took a couple years off my life lol. Glad your's didn't fail like mine did. :)

thanks, just taking my time and talking to the right people sure helps alot, **** happens with parts, it was resolved quickly when I spoke to the right person, Borla are great people to deal with.

not really if they pose a problem i can scuff them up with 2000 and knock the shine down.

Great work on the bumpers, as always.
Hopefully you can get the sound with your exhaust that you want. I got the bigger Flow Master mufflers (50 series) because I didn't want it too loud all of the time. These still drone at certain RPM's and are plenty loud. I'm not against changing mine, in the future, if I find the sound that I like.

thanks, I'm gonna keep these mufflers for now regardless, can't wait to get her back, hope the weather holds out for a little longer so i can get the fuel injection tweaked out. and need to bite the bullet for the new rims and tires.

Don,

Just finished reading every word on your fantastic thread. You guys that undertake these complete restorations are truly inspiring! I just got back into the hobby after 25 years; married, kids, college, yada yada...and this site along with all it's great members, sure makes me glad I did. Congratulations on an incredible build, you'll no doubt enjoy the fruits of your labor for years to come. Sure hope to see you and that ride at Carlisle next year. This summer was my first time back in 25 years and got to meet some of the awesome folks here at fbbo.

thank you Rob, my kids are also grown and gone. I worked on these cars in the early eighties as beaters to get to work etc. laying in dirt with rust and dirt falling in my eyes. it is so nice working on them now bringing them into pristine condition, rarely even getting my tools dirty. like night and day. this is my most extensive build for sure, without this site it would not have turned out nearly as well, there is an amazing amount of knowledge, talent, and some way cool people willing to lend advice and help that saved alot of trial and error. you've come to the right place. Something about these cars are intoxicating to me, the more i look at them the more desirable they become. probably won't make it to carlilse, but I am shooting for the 2020 detroit autorama, that place needs some more mopar presence, My son and his car club will be there bringing around 18 cars, also have several friends that will have cars there also. not sure where 18040 is, but stop by if you can get there its the last weekend in february, (you might need a snowmobile to make it here) If everything works out, still have alot of tweaking to do. Soooo have you bought your project yet?

Don,

I bought my project in February of this year; 1972 Satellite, mild Resto-mod. If you click on my Avatar I have a "Photo Garage" you can peruse through. Ironically my favorite ride is a '68 Charger, I sold my '69 Charger 25 years ago after getting married etc. After some deliberation about how I wanted to jump back in to the hobby, I settled on getting something that was solid and complete that I could enjoy right away, but could make it mine slowly over time. With that in mind I started my search only to discover that I was priced out of the 2nd gen Charger option. The 3rd gen Chargers and/or Plymouth's were my 2nd choice and that's where I ended up. I would live to visit in February, though I'm sure i wouldn't be driving, Haha. I live in Easton Pa, right on the border with N.H.

nice, blue with the white looks good i have never really looked at the photo garages before i guess i'll have to check more of those out. i had to buy my car the way it was couldn't afford to cough up enough to get one in good shape. even in that shape it was crazy money for me. after 5 years of throwing money at and alot of work has paid off. I went to carlilse a few years ago looking for parts very cool place who knows maybe I make make the journey again.

well got my rims ordered went with wheels for less out of Texas. talked to many other people about sizing for this car, no one had any specific answers so I bought the torque thrusts that are on the car now for a reasonable price for a mock up before biting the bullet on the ones I want and having a fitment issue. the torque rims have a 4.5" back spacing with a 18 x 10" rim for the back, after measuring my car looks like 5" backspacing is ideal. fronts will be 17 x 8" with a 4.5" spacing when I talked to the sales guy, he confirmed my conclusion, which was like a breath of fresh air. should be here mid january with tires installed, hope they get here unscathed. I liked the spoke look of the rims

which seemed to kind of mimic the originals while showing more of the brakes, the tapered sides reflect some of female aspect of the body lines on the car. I looked high and low at hundreds of rims, these seemed to be the choice for me,

well just picked up my bumpers today, very happy with the outcome going to get the fit a little closer to the car by manipulating the brackets a little, then paint the back with black sem undercoating. getting close with this almost done. gonna hit it hard for the next few weeks will take some more pics th

thank you, cut 3/8" off each side also alot of work but quite a difference in fit into the quarters bumper indentions
