Donny's 1969 GTX

Yup, pulled the GTX out from it's sleep in the back room, where it's subjected to getting dusted from Media Blasted, but not subjected to it, just dusty, man, was it every dusty! Funny thing is the tasks at hand that I was not really sure of handling on this, and the Satellite -- have been done a few times on others' cars over the past several months. And, taking a step back and looking at the 69 Camaro Mini Tubs I just finished, doing it to the MOPARS is no longer daunting!

I'm knee deep in my first wheel well Donny . . . got pics on my thread . . . I'll let you know ? ! ? ! ? ! ? So far, it's going pretty well . . .

I missed your post Conv67! Sorry! Here's the GTX Deck Lid. I fit it in and blasted it as I worked on paying jobs. Man, the rust pits on this Deck lid are bad! However, I got all the rust gone. Had to remove the inside lower lip though as this is where all the rot is on these cars' deck lids. I took it apart just like on my Satellite deck lid, same game, same process. I will blast the newly exposed inside areas on the GTX lid, epoxy that area, and use 3M Panel Bond to fill in the many cheese grate holes, or, I may just get some new steel and weld it in for strength and appearance. Here's the pics...

Forge forward my friend! Hit me up if you need some pointers on anything you've seen me do on mine.

My 'problems' are that I have too many paying jobs, which, sadly are GREAT problems to have! Getting help to actually 'help' is tough, as I'm rather OCD, **** retentive, and a perfectionist, so, nothing leaves unless it's perfect. Oh well! Trudge along here and there. And, I got a Challenger coming in that will join the docket with the GTX, Satellite, and 300. The 300 is a running and driving vehicle, started that project a long time ago, it needed less, and my skill sets back then were meager. So, that car's work is really not up to my standards now, so, it's just something I'll finish as is. LOL

Watching your work Donny is a treat, getting the help to help i sure understand, i would like to know what happen to people, it used to be they were Curtis and if they cant help on a given day they would call and let you know, not tell you what time and day and never show or call. Now more and more im finding no one does it any more, ive hired a couple young fellas to come hear and do that or this and i wait and no one shows, not even a call to explain why, nothing, and to get some teenagers just to stack wood or do some mowing, they want a hundred bucks and up front or there's a tv program on and cant. things sure have changed since i was younger! Im looking forward to seeing that hood your doing, i know by the sound of things you have your hands full but ill be watching and best of luck on these projects to you, its a sure thing you will get them and they be right when done!

Hey Ron, thanks! I have a soon to be HS Senior working for me now, by far the best of all the kids I've have helping me out here and there. I had a young 17 yr old girl that, frankly was pretty cute, but, she was the first to respond to my querry on my facebook community page needing part time help, so, I have her a chance, she was working our nicely too, but, after just one week, she said she wanted to go on vacation for a week, so, no problem! On her vacation a woman posted that her son needs work, he's hard working, dependable, and knows how to weld! BINGO, I called him up, he works about 15 hrs a week for me now, he has a cell phone, but, uses it as a phone and texts, he doesn't use facebook or play video games! He has an F350 jacked up about 3 feet, you literally need a ladder to get in it! So, he spends all his time on his truck! With this kid I can actually release him on the paying projects to get billable hours! Which frees me up to do other billable hours, or do my own stuff. So, the girl came back from vacation, she texted me saying "I'm back Boss, when do you want me to come in"? I said honey, I found another worker while you were gone, sorry. And remember my guy whom I called 'Drunky' that worked for me? Well, sad to say it but he came down with cancer a few months ago, hitting him hard, he's getting knocked down fast. The guy lived a fast life, lots of booze, drugs, smokes, bad eating, 4 marriages, how he avoided jail time after 4 DUI's is mind blowing. We all told him the past will catch up with him -- we just didn't think Cancer would come calling! He likely won't make it to the end of the year.

Glad you found a good kid to help you out. Sounds like he'd be a good gear head to work with. Are you going to let him help you on your cars?

He's actually pretty helpful! One of my HF pedestal fans has a Clay mounting base to give it weight and support broke the other day rendering the fan useless. Well, I told him design me a stand, use this steel stock I had on hand and build a stand. I gave him some oversight as he was working, but, it was his baby, and I now have a fan stand that works! Yeah, it's challenging to find good help these days; either too hot, not enough money, or whatever. I've had pretty good luck so far.

On the Deck lid, I blasted the inside section of the Deck lid -- a lot of work for just one piece of the car, but, no one repops these Deck lids, and, nothing is as good as the original pieces. If you can afford the time, or costs to recondition something -- and it's worth it like these deck lids are.

News Flash: This car and all the parts that go with it is now for sale. Seventy Five Hundred is what I want and this is the bottom line. Reason: No time, interests focusing on my Satellite, and the reality is this car needs to go. If anyone's interested, contact me. Thanks.

Can't decide which is sexier. Canuck's first GTX pic or Donny's treat. But I'm gonna get carpal tunnel scrolling between the 2 images trying to decide.

Hey folks, decided going to sell this car and all it's stuff! Had to realize that with my business skyrocketing, having difficulty finding people who know how to weld PROPERLY, and metal fab skills, some of my own 'stuff' is going to move. I am keeping the Satellite with a 5.7, I am keeping my 70 Challenger and of course my 300. What I recently stumbled into was an 89 Porsche 928S4 5spd Guards Red with 79k miles which is taking my attention so, which car is most desirable, I figure the GTX. I will let it go for a very fair and reasonable price according to some MOPAR experts.

Have you posted an asking price?

This is posted above my Donny.

Well, I said forget selling it. I have a young man that has worked for me off and on the last 2 yrs who has expressed an interest in restoring a car. He likes my GTX and I initially said a low price, then said he can work it off, and I feel blessed and want to return the favor and pay it back or pay it foward...I'm giving Alex this car, and all the pieces that go with it! I'm just asking him to help me erect my Paint Booth as payment. I personally am tired of how we in society give things away that are absolute garbage - and we know it -- as do the persons receiving such 'gifts'. As such, I said I'm giving Alex the one MOPAR that is the most valuable and likely coveted amongst the MOPARS that I own. I do think Alex will actually do something with it - he's very excited and has been doing lots of research on this car and he loves the Q5 color too!

I know I'll be asked to help him out often - which I will assist him too. I've just been so busy with paying jobs, and a massive diversion to E Bodies and Porsche 928's! So, it's getting given away this weekend! Just one of those feelings folks, all warm and fuzzy inside! I hope Alex joins fbbo and carries on with posting updates and picking ya'lls brains!
