Door Weather Stripping

ODZKing, you have circled the roofrail weatherstrip. The best sealing weatherstripping for the 66 to 67 B-Body is the Steele piece. They allow for a much better seal than the competition. The other major difference is that the Steele piece is almost twice the price. The quarter glass seal is the seal that attaches in the stainless trim at the back edge of the door glass. This seals the edge of the quarter glass to the door glass when both are rolled up completely. Both Metro and Soft Seal offer a comparable piece at similar pricing. There is a cheaper variety available and has a correct profile, but it is not flocked and all of these seals after 1962 was flocked.

Some keep mentioning that after 1962 all of these seals were flocked. Can anyone put up a profile picture of a flocked quarter window seal. I bought a "flocked" piece - it needed major trimming just to fit in the channel. Ended up being too thick and got thrown away. I'd love to see a picture of an original next to a unflocked Metro next to a flocked piece.

I had some confusion when installing the roof rail seal on my '62. Used the Softseal from Metro.

If you have the type with two different profiles molded together, you have to start where the two glasses meet when installing.

I would love to see pictures of the roof rail installation. I have a 66 Belvedere with power windows I’m trying to build. Unfortunately, I didn’t take it apart, lol.
Is it three pieces, the foam gasket, stainless steel trim and then the rubber seal?

Yes, the foam strip glues to the stainless steel (just enough to hold it in place), install the stainless steel with foam attached (foam against roof rail), insert the roof rail weather stripping into the stainless steel.

My 66 Charger will be coming out of the paint shop soon. I'm going to install the stainless first -- this will give you a firm surface to push the new weather seal into. Also, in that order it would reduce the possibility of bending the stainless while trying to insert the weather seal. Just my opinion.

Note: I ordered the roof rail weather stripping from Steele -- it looks very very close to the original profile.

The weather strip seems to snap in nice and snug. Is it recommended to use a weather strip sealer before installing?

I would not suggest using any glue on the door seals. The clips will keep it secure to the door frame. If you glue it in place, it makes it more prone to tearing down the road.

How about the seal for the roof rails?

The reproduction roof rail seal whether it be Metro or Steele does not conform to the roof rail channel as well as the original seals did. The originals did not require any glue. But you may need to place a small dab approximately every six inches to make sure that it does not move around inside the channel for the reproduction seals. The same holds true for the quarter glass seals as well.
