I am dropping in the 383 4 speed in as one unit, already bolted together. I am using a 1-ton lift and an engine leveler. Any advice or suggestions? there will be three of us-hopefully thats enough.

Wrap the Trans tail stock with a towel and hang heavy blankets over the cowl, rad support and inner fenders.2 jacks are handy, one to raise and lower the car as needed and one to help level the tail stock into position to pass it threw the Trans tunnel and onto the mount.

The padding mentioned above will be very useful!!

I'd say put a steep angle on it like this (Scroll down a bit to see the pictures).

A buddy to help push the tail shaft down into the tranny tunnel and you on the crane end to lift the front of the engine up a bit and it will go right in. Move in small steps. Push toward firewall - lower slightly - push back some more - lower more, etc... Once the tranny is near the ground put a jack under it to get it in position.

Good luck!

OK two and a half hours and its in. A little persuading with a 2x4 and 5# hammer to line up the motor mount holes but its in. after its all hooked up with the cast iron manifolds it will be broken in and then have to lift the motor again to put in the ceramic coated headers.

All useful tools!!

Yep, looks like everything is where it should be.

Don't forget to black out the front of the rad support before you put the grille on. In case you're not sure this is typical of how it should look.
