I'm fabbing a fixture to hold the K member and trans for a from the bottom in installation, and I am in desperate need for a key piece of information...

I've never seen this car together, got it as a basket case. Plus I'm an off road fabricator, I invent my cars, don't have to use existing parts! LOL

Anyway, please go easy on me.

Does the cross member go this way?

Or this way?

Thanks for any help!

I think it goes the way in the second picture. I promise once the trans is bolted to the engine in the car its only going to fit one way.

I just went out and looked under my 68 Charger and the bottom photo is correct.
The mount side is toward the front.

Thank you!

2nd pic fer shore. In the first, the crossmember will interfere with the speedometer cable if installed like that.

See the tab on the trans case, just aft of the neutral switch? There's another just like it on the other side. Those tabs are used to mount the trans onto a overhaul stand.

If your building your own fixture, I'd suggest using those tabs, and a jack pad on the fixture underneath.

That will keep your fixture clear of the trans crossmember, when it's time to mount it. Usually, when dropping in the motor/trans together, you have to lift the trans tail housing into place, bolt up the crossmember, and lower the trans into place.
