Ring/pinion pattern off...

Yeah, I should have commented on checking the carrier ring gear flange out with a dial indicator before mounting the ring gear. If it isn’t real clean and flat then you will have nothing but trouble setting it up. I don’t remember exactly what the spec for run out is but probably just 2 or 3 thousands.

i didn't dial indicate it but turning the pinion feels much better, i could feel tight spots before, now it feels good... Only thing that bugs me is to get the pinion to 20inch/lb preload it feels crazy tight and almost grindy.. that was with the old setup though, will see how it feels with this.

I don't remember what the spec is, but I remember the ebay chinese clutch units were about four times worse than an OEM carrier.

The trans stuff is actually quicker than gear set up. I HATE gear set up. Just went thru a push button trans with no kick down. Easy diagnosis when you get there. In this case it was a crack in the wall of the valve body next to the throttle pressure valve.

eck.. well i hope not.. i did a tf2 kit and it works fine, just likes to shift really early no matter the throttle input, and no kickdown.. pulled the tailshaft and made sure the gov wasn't stuck or anything messed up (only part i didn't check when building it, cause well.. lazy) Will tackle it when i get to it though, wanna put some miles on once the rear end is back together then move on from there...

I will say, after 22 years finally having a heater in my garage is soooo nice.. used a propane torpedo forever, Cold to too Hot.. off, on.. out of propane.... hated it soo much

If it has no kick down most likely not the governor circuit. It's lack of throttle pressure. Need to put a gauge in the accumulator port. Start the car with the lthrottle linkage disconnected. Move the throttle arm at the trans back fully. Pressure should rise at least 50 psi. Throttle Governor pressure has to overcome throttle pressure to make a shift. Throttle pressure must overcome governor pressure to kick down. An early shift from a stuck governor would show low governor pressure at the governor pressure tap. If that were the case it would downshift easily.

Ok.... i setup with .100 and i thought it looked good but a little high, went to .105 and didn't like it but don't wanna set it til i get your opinions..

First the .100 (btw.. is .100+ normal?)
Both of these are at .008 BL

BTW.. i am REALLY starting to hate this... just.. together, apart over and over...

And this is the .105, on the 105 i felt the coast side pattern got a little odd, and the pinion didn't look as good..

I like the .100 better myself. It actually looks real good to my less than professional eye. I know you are tired of messing with it but I would try a .095 to .097 setup to make sure you are in the zone.
