electronic ignition?

Cranky,, I do believe you are correct on the adj.vac.

I thought the Mopar Performance dizzy had an adjustable advance accessible through the vacuum diaphragm with an Allen wrench?

Yes, it does—just like the adjustable vacuum advance on most every Chrysler electronic distributor, even the non-MP ones—but that does not alter the mechanical/centrifugal advance, which is what I was talking about.

What's wrong with the factory mid 70s and up electronic setup that you can still find at junk yards if you look long enough?

The MSD is a great system and has no more issue's then any other ign which is very good when you consider 75% of the race and street cars use MSD. Got one on my sons Dart and it has had zero trouble. Its a street car that runs 11.40's @ 117. I use the MP orange box with a Mallory dist and it has never missed a beat for over 10 years on our cars.I shift my 440 at 6200 rpm using the orange box and it works great. But if you just want to buy a good performance ign you cant go wrong with the MSD setup. Ron

Yep, I looked today and sure enough I saw a socket head screw like thing through the vacuum port. Good to know!!

Hmmmm, never checked. I know Crane used to sell an adjustable unit years ago but it might have been for GM applications only. I know; you're surprised! If I remember I'll check mine tomorrow and let you know.

I'll letcha know now, yes, they do have an adjustable vacuum advance that an allen key adjusts. 3/32 I think is the size.

There really the only distributor I purchase since all out racing I have not a deadacded car for or do. They work excellent in stock to a preety serious street strip car. My fav. ignition box is the Chrome or Gold (Limited useage) or a MSD 6 box.

I've had alot of bad exp. with the MSD box's. 1 lasting, many as *I think* 6 failed on me, while freinds of mine have had them for years and years without issue.

Figures I get a bad lot of them. :icon_hang:

Ok, not trying to hi-jack the thread, but EXACTLY how can I tell if my dizzy is worn out? I have checked [not REPLACED!] everything else. And I cant get a steady idle, or keep it running.

You would just check the shaft for side to side play. Move the rotor while watching the distributor cam relative to the breaker plate. Also check other stuff like vacuum leaks, bad plug wires, etc..

TH MP distributor is adjustable for advance, it's actually a Mallory "YH" unit with a stock style case and cap. It's easy to adjust but I recomend the part #29014 tuning kit, it'll make life a lot easier.
