1972 318 LA with electronic ignition...

I just finished putting in an Eddie performer intake, new valve covers, and an electronic ignition conversion. The car has been sitting in the garage for almost a year while I've been redoing the interior, patching holes, etc.

When I try to start the engine it cranks for a few seconds then pop/backfires. The backfire seems to be coming from the carb. I've checked the firing order on the distributor. I compared the rotation of the distributor to the photos I've had when I took it apart and everything looks good. Tonight I'm going to try adding some new gas in case that is the problem. Any other ideas?

Was the distributor out at any time since you had it parked? Might be 180 degrees out??

X4 on the 180 out. Pull the distributor up enough to spin the shaft 180 degrees then drop it back in. If it fires that was your problem.

Pulled the dizzy and rotated it 180, solved the problem, thanks guys!
