Anyone ever use axle straps as engine hoist?

I made some hoist plates to bolt to the exhaust side of the heads then want to use 4 of dad's axle straps instead of chains this. The only concern I have is it says on the tag "do not use to lift".
I can't figure that one out, they are rated at 10,000 lbs so why couldn't you use them to lift with?

i use to use them all the time till i got my quartermax engine sling. no problems with axle straps.

First of all, what exactly are axle straps?

The reason it has a label that says "do not use to lift" is because that's probably not what it was originally designed for, and their lawyers made them put the label on.

FWIW, I've used lots of things over the years for things they were never intended to do. That doesn't make it right, just is what it is. We've all been there.

Try it, just don't try to lift the engine six feet in the air first. Take up the load and get a feel for what it's going to do next, then proceed.

The preceeding statement is just my opinion and no scientific studies were conducted to substantiate such claims. All advice is to be used at your own risk. (my lawyers told me to say that!!! LOL)

Cool, thanks Chris. I knew I couldn't be the only one who has used them. I just wanted to see if anyone knew of a reason why not to use them.

I kind of thought that lawyers were the reason the disclaimer was on the straps.

MY QUARTERMAX engine sling is just a glorified axle strap with a nice steel bar attached to it. nothing more or less.
