Engine sheetmetal plate

Just wondering if this plate goes on the front or back of the engine and why its used. Thanks

rounded one goes on the back, and if you have the diagonal cut one it goes on the front, at least that's where I've always found them to be, and they hold the foil insulation pack in place

some years had just the front one, some had front and back
