Did the 63 max wedge cars also have overspray on the primered undercarriages or where they completely painted on the underside?

thanks again,
Marcel

thanks to Hemigeno; i used a picture of his restored Daytona, just as a reference for what i mean.

Yep, the overspray is correct with the grey underside. Here is my 64 Dodge 330 on the rotisserie - factory style paint was done. It's a little hard to tell on the lighter colors like mine being white.

thanks for the reply; that solves another thing for me.
Did you see my other threads? Maybe you can answer those questions?
thanks again and sharp looking car it's gonna be,

sincerely, Marcel

Hi Marcel-
I saw those other questions but don't really have an answer for them. My quarter panels had no undercoating & I am am not sure if a Savoy had sound deadener/undercoating. As far as the drips, I would wait for pics from the one person who responded... they would be pretty random here and there in the engine compartment.

I left my trunk body color for now, but it should be zolotone coated... just cant bring myself to cover up this nice white finish at the moment!

My car originally had sound-deadener in the trunk;
i was wondering if it was obsolete on the lightweight-cars of that era.
Is your car a lightweight-car?

Nope my car is not a lightweight but it is a 330 which had very few extras. It did have a little sprayed inside the quarters under the rear side windows. Max wedge cars in higher optioned cars like Polaras would likely have the sound deadening just like a 383 Polara would. It's pretty safe to say that a lightweight car would not have any sound deadening applied. I am sure I read that somewhere, but don't have any exact info or links to give you.

Hitit? Did your car show signs of zolatone paint in the trunk? I have owned and parted a bunch of early B-bodies and none had the zolatone from the factory? I just thought that was something that Mosher loves to do, or was it a higher end trim level deal?

My '63 Savoy trunk floor...

I see your car has the sounddeadener on the inside of the quarters; was this an option on your car? Is your car a lightweightcar?

Not a lightweight car, but it is a 13.5cr '63 Savoy built Feb 14th, '63, so it missed the trunk mounted battery by a few weeks...

Hey RubyRedSavoy no I don't know for sure, and didn't see any signs of it in my car, but I just thought that the zolotone was factory since I have seen it quite a bit on factory style restorations on 62-65 B's. To tell you the truth I never looked it up to be sure!

Maybe it is a higher end Polara / Belvedere option?

If i understand right, it is a 13.5 compression ratio without the lightweight package? I didn't know that was possible!

Correct, most high compression cars were built with the steel nose. My car is 3131170599, you can find it in the Darrell Davis book. Only 40 aluminum nose cars were built and an extra 10 sets of aluminum were made for "extras". You could only get the lightweight option with the high compression engine.

Here is a cool one for you that just changed hands.

It is a 426/425 13.5cr T85 4dr Savoy! Several other were made in '63.

I have had several with factory Zolotone in the trunk. Perhaps it depends on which factory built the car?

IF Zolatone was applied, was it sprayed over primer or over body color paint? Need to do some detective work on my '63 Savoy....

63 savoy lightweight

Im glad I found this forum, i am restoring an original 63 savoy lightweight for a customer and have been searching for the info just spoke about. if anyone has more pictures etc... I would appreciate any. My main concern right now is undercarriage correctness. I was told these cars were dipped in primer but how far up/ It seems the higher on the car the less primer I find. thanks

Trunk Paint

For what it's worth, I've had two `65 Coronets (just sold one) and a
'65 Belvedere and all three had Zolatone in the trunk - sprayed over primer. The Zolatone was apparently applied BEFORE the body was painted as all three cars - still in their original factory paint - had body color paint sprayed over portions of the trunk. Doesn't look like the factory did any masking when painting around the trunk opening. All three cars had sound deadening about 2/3 the way up each rear quarter - then covered with Zolatone.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Help...???

Hi everyone,

I have questions regarding my 1965 Dodge Coronet A990 recreation. I am recreating an A990 that I want to keep the factory period correct with the paint process.

In 1965, did the A990 get painted the same way as what was done on the Savoy in this write up with regards to over spray...?

If someone here can please give me all the details in;

Proper trunk color, Zolotone or body color...?
Body color in the wheel wells...?
Were the interiors and the bottoms of the cars body color or gray with body color overspray...?

Answering these question would be greatly appreciated...!!!!
