Outstanding!! Thanks Jay!! If it all pans out with this car, i'll be looking you up. Gotta friend going out on tuesday to make sure it is a real deal Superbee...

Decided to tackle that bent up upper radiator core support this weekend.
Hard to tell by the pic, but she was bent out pretty bad in 2 spots, twisted and the upper and lower lips being mangled up pretty bad. Had a chance to pick up a new one pretty cheap, but I wanted to keep the original seeing the matching VIN is stamped on it. So...off to the torch, then body hammer, then vise, then panel bending grips, back to the body hammer, heat....1 1/2" bar stock..vise....you get the picture.

Metal was pretty good under core support

Got the repaired part back in place...Was pretty happy how straight it came back out. I noticed when going to reinstall, the side supports moved apart apart a 1/4" after drilled the upper core support out. Nothing a come-a-long couldn't fix..

Pulled out the upper ball joints and upper control arms... After shopping around and not wanting to pay $30-40 per to replace each upper control arm bushing, I bought this upper control arm bushing removal/install tool from American Muscle...It did the trick put still required quite a bit of penetrating oil/hammering/heat to get them out

Since both inner fenders were now down to bare metal on both the inside and out, I coated both with a couple thick coats of rust bullet on the fender side..

Very nice work!

It took me a few days to find the time to read through the whole thread.

LOL..... Yeah oneway, this thread is becoming a book. Spend a bunch of time chit chatting with the fella's on this thread, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for taking the time to go through it.

Well...Finally since most of the metal work is wrapped up, time to start on the body work.

Got the engine bay rough finished with some Evercoat Extreme Rage and then a thin coat of Glaze..

What a nice change of scenery huh?

I'm envious, I can't wait for the smell in my garage to change from welding smoke and grinding wheel abrasives to body filler and primer smell.

wow Will Nice work as always! Keep this up and she will be done by next month!! Well I get to keep the car and I moved!! I have a new phone # I will p.m. 2 u later! A 70 bee!! Can't wait to see her!! If this project does'nt kill me I think another B body or a possible A body is in my future! I will get some pics when things calm down.I will be starting mine, again when the weather breaks!

Great to hear Ben! Your music gig still rolling along pretty good for ya? I told the ol' lady we would be making a trip down to Indiana in the future to watch you jam. She's looking forward to it. What kind of A Body are you tossing around the idea of buying? I have a soft spot for the A's as well.

I have a buddy checking out that Superbee for me today. Just making sure it is the real thing. Nothing against clones, but I just want the real thing. I'm thinking about going pro-touring on that one. I hear ya on the weather! Snowing this morning when I got up.

Dave, at the rate you're going, fill work is not the far down the road for ya.. Any luck on a windshield gasket yet? I see those rubber arm bandit's that do have them, jacked up the price by 5 or 6 times, because they know everyone is looking and they're not coming back out till summer

My god Goat...That 1100 turbo is a tornado on a rollerskate..Super fast!!! Don't go killing yourself on that beast. I too respect the Cat's and like the rest of the sledneck community, respect the amount of power/performance Arctic Cat bring's to the table. Hope you get her!!

Thanks Daryn, and I plan on holding you to that. I told the wife we'll try not to burn the place down when we finally put air in her lungs.. Right now it i'm hoping to have the car back from paint by early fall, put her back together over the winter and then drop in the 512 come spring. I'm gonna break my back and billfold to try and make it happen. That would make 2 years of work to finally get to drive my dream car. Waited my whole life just to get the car, so I guess a couple years is just drops in the bucket...

Fun...Fun...Fun..........

You know what is more fun than being on the wrong end of a firing squad? Spending many, many relaxing hours on your back with a needle gun, grinder, wire wheel, sander, torch and puddy knife..

So, next resto.......Rotisserie and media blast. Obviously you can do without, but why torture yourself?

Good news is, the whole underside of the car is either fresh new E-Coated metal or factory tin now down to shiney metal again. I will coat the whole underside in rust bullet and then apply the two cases of SEM "Rockit" truck bed liner to the bottom. I want this car to live twice as long as me.....

Rock on with your bad, bad self man!!

Your arms must feel like 2 bread bags fullu charlie horse.

lol!!

Nice work!!

Will, how are you planning on applying that bed liner if your rolling/brushing it on mix small amounts of the bedliner at a time the SEM bedliner i used would start to harden in less than 30 mins. i used a bedliner spray gun and mixed 2 quarts at a time by the time i sprayed the second quart i needed to stop and clean the gun before i went any further otherwise it would have hardened in the gun. also if using a gun and only having the car up on jack stands ( thats the way i did it) i strongly recommend laying plastic down first up to at least 5 ft beyond the car because you and your garage WILL get covered in bedliner. any way have fun and make sure you have good ventilation

Thanks for the tips goat!! Very useful info considering i'm going exactly the route your speaking of.

More work done in the past few days........

I ended up seam welding pretty much all of the trunk pan to frame rail/shackle mount seat's..Wanted to add the extra rigidness back there......

t2-3.jpg

Just about coated the entire bottom of the car besides the last couple feet (ran out out of rust bullet), since it was now down to bare metal.

t1-3.jpg

Since the outside inner fenders were already coated, I decided to whip out the SEM spray truck bedliner...I gotta say the stuff goes on real nice at 50 PSI. Flows well and 10-12 MILS at 2 coats..Use a lot of ventilation..

The whole underside of the car and the inside trunk pan will also be getting this bedliner once I throw a coat of rust bullet on what I couldn't finish up

Guys..........

Details on the Bee. My buddy confirmed it's the real deal last week for me

1970 Superbee
-383 (still in it-not running)
-4 speed (still in it)
-8 3/4..S.G..3:23's (still in it)
-Buckets
-Factory Go Mango with C-Stripe
-Vinyl top car
-Air grabber hood
-P/B, P/S
-Factory AM/FM 8 Track with rear speaker.
-Has fender Tag, Broadcast Sheet and get this.....Original window sticker & certicard

From the sounds of it, the car is in better shape than the roadrunner was. Rear rails and shackle mounts still good, trunk lid good, doors bubbled at rear/lower corners, fenders bubbled in dog leg.

Trunk pan shot, extensions junk, lower quarters toast front/rear, outer wheelhouse lips shot, grill inserts missing, large dent in roof, rockers need help in typical areas.

I won't be able to see the car for another couple weekends. The guy is an OTR truck driver and makes quite a few runs up to BC Canada. He wants $4500 obo for the car.

Obviously i'll make my decision once I see it myself. I trust my buddy, but sometimes he tends to be one of those "it's mint man!!" kind of guys. I'll post up some pic's as soon as I get them.

Holy Hell Will! Sounds like a nice Bee!! I love all the Super bees! Gotta admit 68-69 are my favorites but the 70 is sweet!! Your project is looking amazing! I am gonna talk to those friends of mine for you about the roadrunner, maybe tomorrow! Anyways keep it up!
