The bee sounds like it has the same drivetrain & running gear as my bird from the water pump to the back tires, sounds like it has the normal stuff wrong with it too. nothing you haven't seen and fixed before.

What did you use to spray the bedliner Will?

Regular spray gun with a big fluid tip? like a 2.2? Or maybe a shutz gun?

Hey Will.... got any advice on filling trim holes??

lol!!

:poke:

LOL!! That's gotta be the most in depth trim hole filling debate I've ever seen. I always thought it was pretty black & white stuff, guess not..... Still waiting for NASA and Chuck Foose to chime in over there......

The SEM "Rockit" Bedliner kit comes with a schutz gun for application. That's what I used. I bought 2 kits from TCP Global @ $100 a kit. Each kit also comes with 4 quarts of bedliner and a quart of catalyst. I went through 1 quart for the outside of the inner fenders.. I should have no problem covering all the areas left..

Matt,

According to my partner in crime, interior sounds to have originally been a burnt orange. Stripe/top black.. Hopefully it all pans out, but then again I still have my friends "premo" factor to wonder about. He bought a 67 Chevelle that was "premo/mint" that requires serious surgery.

Ben,

Thanks for asking....Paint is getting close now. Pop's is coming over this weekend and we're gonna rebuild the entire front suspension and toss on the disc brakes. Stuff we're tossing on.

New Idler Arm
New Pittman arm
Rebuilt control arms with Energy Suspension poly bushings
New Spicer Camber bolts
New KYB shocks and Bushings
New PST GMAX Sway Bar with poly sway link bushings and mounts
New MOOG Ball joints
New MOOG Tie Rods
New MOOG Tie Rod Sleeves
New Cross drilled/slotted Zinc dipped rotors as well as calipers
New Flex front lines
New Strut Rod Bushings
New Just Suspension "Pro Touring" 1.000" Torsion Bars
New E.S. poly upper/lower Control arm bumpers.

Obviously a bunch of work to do, but i'm thinking she's gonna handle just a bit better than when I picked her up.

I have a friend like that.

He "helped" me buy that 64 galaxie 500 xl i have.

Told me how awesome it was and went with me to buy it.

Well, the car is a basket case and my buddy really helped me out by actually talking the price UP for me...

I'm not kidding!! When the seller told me what he wanted (which was fair at best but no steal) My buddy pipes up and proclaims "Oh it's gotta be worth more than that, Dave you gotta give him more than that..."

Yeah, I call that the "Barret Jackson syndrom"

He saw one go for a huge pile of money in a good ecomomy on barret jackson once and that number is permanently stuck in his head.

Some guys just don't get it, a lot of these cars you could get for free and do all the work yourself and you'd still be doing good to come out dead even in the end because they need so damn much work.

ok, rant off..

Just wanted to let you know you aint the only one with an enthusiastic friend that figures everything is "mint" lol!!

Tell me you at least slapped him up along side the head....

"To the Mooooon Alice...To the Moooon!!!"

I'm not kidding, it was a textbook dumb & dumber moment.

I was dumb for being there with him in the first place and then the guy starts talking the asking price up on me...

I looked at him in disbelief, didn't even know what to say...

Hard to talk a seller down on his asking price when your buddy is trying to talk him up. lol!!

I thought I was on candid camera.

I said "Brad, if it's worth it to you then go for it. I'm not as excited about this car as you are so I guess the very best I can do is to give the man what he's asking for it."

The seller didn't even know what to do.

It's funny now, not so much back then lol!!

Guys..........

Details on the Bee. My buddy confirmed it's the real deal last week for me

1970 Superbee
-383 (still in it-not running)
-4 speed (still in it)
-8 3/4..S.G..3:23's (still in it)
-Buckets
-Factory Go Mango with C-Stripe
-Vinyl top car
-Air grabber hood
-P/B, P/S
-Factory AM/FM 8 Track with rear speaker.
-Has fender Tag, Broadcast Sheet and get this.....Original window sticker & certicard

From the sounds of it, the car is in better shape than the roadrunner was. Rear rails and shackle mounts still good, trunk lid good, doors bubbled at rear/lower corners, fenders bubbled in dog leg.

Trunk pan shot, extensions junk, lower quarters toast front/rear, outer wheelhouse lips shot, grill inserts missing, large dent in roof, rockers need help in typical areas.

I won't be able to see the car for another couple weekends. The guy is an OTR truck driver and makes quite a few runs up to BC Canada. He wants $4500 obo for the car.

Obviously i'll make my decision once I see it myself. I trust my buddy, but sometimes he tends to be one of those "it's mint man!!" kind of guys. I'll post up some pic's as soon as I get them.

wow i love those cars , that sound like a gem

more work done..

Decided to remove most of the old ratty upper firewall/cowl bank insulation and replace it with fire resistant low decibel foam pad underlay for carpeting. Cut to fit, toss on some 3M spray adhesive and away we go.....Total cost from Home Depot $9.45

All welds in the trunk are flushed down. Even though all the metal back here is fresh, I will be coating with rust bullet and then spraying in bed liner. These trunks love to leak even with new seals.

r3-3.jpg

So what does the seam on 2 pc pans look like.......Here it is. This is fully welded and ground. Not as horrific as some claim. A guy could even toss a weld to fill the middle and ground flush, toss on a glaze and waaallaaa, never new it was there. Myself, I'll run a bead of seam sealer in it and coat over. I honestly have bigger fish to fry and really don't feel like wasting my time making my trunk pan look like a princess......

photobucket.

Everything looks great prop, especially that trunk seam, very nice.

Thanks guys! Dave is right Matt.....Photobucket. PM me or I'm sure Dave wouldn't mind helping you out, if you would like some instructions on how to do it.

Photobucket is free BTW..

Got the trunk area Seam sealed and coated in rust bullet..

q6-1.jpg

the underside was seam sealed and coated as well

q5-3.jpg

Had to toss up some make shift walls. Didn't feel like decorating the garage with Bedliner

q4-4.jpg

Applied the SEM Bedliner to the entire underside of the car

q3-4.jpg

Also sprayed the entire trunk area

Just some of the parts I'll be installing up front tomorrow (besides rear drums)..Threw on some high temp Cast Blast and also some Black High temp caliper paint on the drums and Caliper's. Also have the newly rebuilt Upper Control Arms/Ball Joints/Bushings, LCA bushings and New Moog Camber bolts to install as well......Still waiting on my pro touring 1.000" bars from just suspension as well as some Upgraded MOOG Strut Rod Composite Bushings

Damn she's looking good. What did you do for seam sealing the seams that are originally very thick like theel house to trunk floor and trunk floor to tail pan?

Did you bed liner yourself as well lol. I used that too. Doesnt come off skin very well. Of course I did just roll my car over to get the bottom.

is it a matching number car?. b5 is a great color. good luck with it. looks great.

Thanks Dave,

I used Evercoat Brushable seam sealer in the trunk. Lays in nice and is just as tough as the factory stuff. I used a whole quart for inside the trunk area.
The underside was full seam welded where I could. The very few gaps left, I filled in with Dynatron seam sealer in a caulk/tube gun.

Russ,

LOL...Yes, I now have about 300 black freckles where my respirator and safety glasses didn't cover. You're right, tough as nails and sure in the hell doesn't like to come off very easy. At least you know it's gonna protect the bottom of the car like a champ.

This pretty much wraps up a great majority of the underneath the car work. Just got the Front-Back Hemi/vert torque boxes and the weld in Global West subframe connectors to install before paint.

Thanks SuperStockRacer..The original engine/tranny were long gone when I got it. Came with a 440 when I picked it up. Stroking that out to a 512 and backing it up with a TCI Superstreetfighter. The rear now has a Detroit Locker, strange engineering axles, Auburn 3.91's and green seals/bearings with a 1350 series hook up in the front. Also have the Calvert CalTracs system for back there. The car won't be running in the caliber of your drag cars, but i'm trying to balance it in between a decent street car but can still go to the strip and feel pretty good about myself. I'm making upgrades/improvement's all over the car where ever I can..The B-5 is being traded in for Black. Just love the color on a 69'

looking good will i see you took my recommendation for laying some plastic down first a step further. man if i dont pick up the pace and start doing something on my x your going to be passing me soon. keep up the good work

Hey thanks Jason! Yeah, I ended up decorating myself up nice with bedliner, but it sure beats giving the garage walls/floors the same treatment. I'm pretty impressed with the SEM kit. Sprayed on real nice with the supplied gun and the stuff is seriously hard as a rock. I still have 2 quarts left out of the 2 cases I started with.

ya i used a diff sem kit than you did mine was like 200 something dollars so i only bought one kit (and it didnt come with a gun) and i made it from the rear bumper up to the firewall then ran out we should be good and protected now. lol
