FBBO cumulative years of Mopar knowledge, experience, passion - Post up your time

Given that quite a few haven't answered yet, I'd be willing to guess that we probably have over 4000 yrs of experience easily. Maybe even 5K.

I started working on cars at my dad's gas station in 1962. I ran the cash register, greased the cars, and did oil changes, as well as tire repairs. By 1970 I had moved up to Huey helicopters, then RF-4C Phantoms, in the USAF. Thanks to my Dad. 52 years working on Mopars!

My dad was a Ford guy & I bought my first car in 1975, a 1969 Charger & it's been all down hill from here.

Same here, RC. My dad wasn't a car guy, but he had a lot of Fords over the years. My first experiences wrenching on cars were on his Fords. I still like Fords and consider them friendly cousins to our Mopars. I'm not much of a GM fan, though.

Time to pull this thread back in - lots of new members lately, so let's hear your stories guys....

Keep the time contributions coming and share a story if you feel like it .. there's been some good ones even some with a pic or two.

If you can tell me the year you started with Mopar that's what I'm using. That way I can automatically adjust everyones times as we go

Page 3 - Posts 41 & 43 - Marpar's guess is real close if not already passed (pending updates)

I still say those Bird-Heads are metal. What do you guys know?

Lets See!!!!!!!!!! Started at 15 years old before I could drive. Had a 34 Ply coupe. Just the body no frame sitting behind the garage. Acquired a 40 Ply 2 door sedan at 16. It was really nice, no rust all original. Did not run. Had it in the garage and would sit in it and pretend LOL. At 18 My first real purchase was a 67 GTX 440 4 Speed. Man I beat the crap out of it, hey I was just a kid. Being in the Navy after 2 years I sold it. Bought a Dodge extended Van. Can't remember the year though! Re-uped and bought a brand new 73 Dodge PowerWagon. Then a 75 PowerWagon club cab and the list goes on and on. What a truck. After that it was just Dodge trucks. I went through a lot of Chebbys in between. My knowledge has faded greatly in regards to what I new and it is going fast. Had my Dart Gasser and now own my 67 Belve GTX clone. But I had to change up on the trucks and now drive a Trailblazer for my wifes ease of getting in and out because of her disability's. The Durango's were to tall for her. Oh ya, came home on leave back in 69 and my 34 and 40 cars were gone. Mom said she didn't want them and were taking up space. Junked them out!!! Oh well. So if it all counts, what is that 47 years? I'm 65. I suppose this is to much info but that's how I remember it.

1972 for me, when I bought my first car, a 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook, for ten dollars. So, 42 years for me and counting.

Got my DL in 1961 in my Dads 49 Dodge Meadowbrooke. Slid into a tree 5 months later and totaled it. He replaced it with a 1952 Dodge which while I was driving home one night a guy in a "borrowed" 54 Chevy deceided to make left turn while I was passing him on a 4 lane road. No insurance and I had to pay ror the repairs my self. Ended up calling it the Calico wonder because of all the different color panels. Next he replaced it with a 1959 Chrysler Saratoga with a 383 4bl. I was a lot more careful with that one. Dad unfortunately died suddenly in 63, just before I was to start school, so I stayed at home and went to work for a Lincoln Mercury dealer who was a friend of the family. Convinced my Mom, who did not drive that we should replace the Chrysler because the rockers were rusting and the transmission was leaking fluid. That was about a year after my Dad had passed away. My older brothers already had their cars. one a 59 Dodge Custom Royal Convt. and the other a 54 Dodge Royal sedan with a Hemi in it and Powerflight trans. So I found a 63 Polara 500 at a nearby VW Dealer and the rest became history. It was a 383 2bl in absolutely perfect condition and ran like a raped ape. Since than I have owned quite a few different cars, but the older Mopars are still my favorite. In early 66 I ordered and took delivery of my 66 Coronet 440 with a 383 4bl 4 speed with Rally suspension and the widest tires I could get. Manual steering and power brakes. Then my friends and neighbors deceided that Uncle Sam needed me, so in Oct. of 66 I had to sell it cause you couldn't make a 90 dollar a month payment on a Privates salary of what I think was around 82 dollars a month. My all time fav is the 63 followed closely by the 66 and my current 69 Charger. Bottom line, I have been a Mopar guy for 53 plus years.

Let me know when it gets up to 6969.

That guess sounds like quite a mouthful Dickie :la:

Good to see some newer members contributing again to this thread. :icon_cheers:

I've been driving since 1973 so....that long. Sorry I ran out of fingers an toes to count, and Mom says I cant use the other parts fer that.

While always being the Mopars, ...including my family's 41 Plymouth, my first experience was with a 56 Coronet, 3 on the tree. That was the car all through high school in 1961 to 1964. Since then, 56 New Yorker, 68 GTX, 74 Charger, Dusters, Chrysler 300C, and don't forget my 66 Belvedere II. All total, that would place me about 53 years.
